Muffin Paper Liners or No?

As I have been talking a lot about making muffins this week, many are curious about what paper liners I use, or if I skip these and just grease my muffin tins.

I almost always use paper liners. Why?

  • For easy clean up.  I find that it’s worth spending a little on paper liners to save me much time in the long run scrubbing muffin tins.
  • To protect my food.  My muffin pans are either aluminum or Teflon, and I don’t love either of those touching our food.

What paper liners to I use?

Sometimes I buy cute ones from the store, just because it’s fun. Usually though, I use If You Care brand paper liners that I buy in bulk from Amazon or Vitacost.

What about you? Do you use paper liners for your muffins?

I like the foil liners and the parchment ones. They never stick!

I stopped using paper liners because my muffins stuck just as bad to the liners as they did to the muffin tin. Do you have problems with muffins sticking in that brand of liner?

Hardly ever compared to others I’ve used. I really like them!

Try foil or parchment! Nothing sticks to them

Foil is aluminum. She just said she wasn’t crazy about aluminum touching her food. :)
I am not, either, for that matter! We only cook in stainless steel or use an unbleached liner.

Parchment is totally safe though. You can Even make nasty fat free muffins in those and nothing will stick ;)

Love these liners. I bought them last year when they were on sale and it is so nice having a huge supply of them. And these lingers really don’t stick to muffins. They work great!

I actually had quit using liners because half the muffin came off with the liners, until you mentioned these a couple of years ago. Now I always use liners; these work wonderful. In fact some muffins they actually pull away from on their own.

We use these muffins–for the same reason you mentioned, Laura! Aluminum pans and ease of washing….As for the liner sticking to the muffin, well if we wait until the muffin is cool, no, it doesn’t stick. Straight from the oven, sometimes it does.

I bought Pampered Chef stoneware muffin trays, and I love them. I didn’t use liners because I didn’t like the waste. But I used cooking spray to quickly grease them. Now I have gotten away from using that because of the junk in it, so I am struggling. I hate greasing each little cup with palm shortening because it takes forever. I will look into these. It would be a great job for the kids to put the papers in the trays.

I recently got silicone liners. LOVE THEM! We actually get to eat whole muffins now, not just 1/2 a muffin with the other 1/2 stuck to the paper or the pan.

Yes, I use silicone ones too. I don’t even need muffin pans anymore which frees up space in the cabinets…

Do either of you find that the silicone bakware give your food an odd taste?? I have a silicone muffin pan that makes baking easy, but I cannot eat anything that comes out of it because I can taste the nasty silicone! Dunno if I’m doing something wrong or what….I have found this to be the case with every type of silicone bakeware I’ve tried. Guess it’s time to try out the paper liners again!!

I love the silicone liners! I use them on a cookie sheet for stability but it saves on storage space. No problems with taste with the ones I have. Found them on Amazon if that helps. They also double as spacers in lunch boxes!

I use paper liners too. I like the easy clean up also. Mine don’t stick into the paper unless it is overcooked.

A long while back you blogged about these muffin liners. I bought in bulk and still have a deep drawer half full! Love these liners and was excited to see that our King Soopers sells them.

I have a Griswald cast iron muffin pan. When we “paint” them with coconut oil, the muffins come out like magic and there is no scrubbing. A quick soak and a wash. I do have to dry it well, though.

I learned from my grandmother to put the cast iron back on the stove for a minute after washing and rinsing to “drive the water out”. Since my iron muffin pan can not go on the stove, I just pop it back in a hot oven. That seems to do the same thing. I love the cast iron, though.

I use parchment liners. The muffins fall right out of them, even when they are hot! I find I can use the same liners 2 or 3 times.

No liners here. We like the browned muffin as it comes from the pan. I have cast iron and the others are 30 plus years old and have such a baked on coating that I seriously doubt that anything from the pan is even touching the muffin! I am not sure what my old muffin pans are made of in fact. They are thick and heavy. Not like ones I see in the stores today. I guess there may be some benefits to having a kitchen full of equipment from a 35 year marriage!

I never believed in using muffin liners as I find them wasteful, however they are a saving grace now that I’m gluten free–because I ask others to make gluten free muffins or cupcakes in liners, so I don’t worry about c/c from their muffin tins and because I can buy liners, I haven’t paid to buy a new muffin tin yet either. (I do parchment paper over cookie sheets for the same reason, at home or in someone else’s kitchen) I do buy the If you care liners, currently at Whole Foods and I’ve been meaning to see if they’re cheaper online. I feel better about having to use a disposable product since they’re sourced better at least.

I used to buy cute liners both online and at the stores for holidays. Then last year I finally got fed up with so many of my muffins sticking to the liners, especially since we cook lowfat and use applesauce instead of fat. Well I spent a ton of money on specialty baking cups that were suppose to be stick free, nope! Then earlier this year I saw you mention about these liners you use. I did much research and decided to take the plunge and buy a case of the regular size to try from Amazon. I LOVE THEM! I love them so much, I went back a few months ago and bought a case of the mini size to have on hand too. I have both cases sitting in my basement storage and can easily grab a box when I run out in the kitchen and need more. So happy! Like I mentioned before, we bake lowfat so I always sub the oil/butter for applesauce or yogurt. In ordinary liners or tins even these type of muffins will always always stick. With these liner’s that Laura recommends, no sticking ever. The muffins literally peel away from the paper liners leaving not even a crumb. It is one of my very favorite finds in recent time and so so worth the cost to me. No cleanup, and these keep my brand new USA Pans (another great item!!) clean as a whistle and in brand new condition always. Thank you Laura for recommending these long ago, I am so very happy I found these!
