It’s been a while since I gave a reminder about this incredible Simple Stir-and-Pour Bread recipe. So just in case you have forgotten about it or haven’t made it yet, I thought it was a good time to give it a shout-out!
This Stir-and-Pour Bread recipe is just about as easy as it gets because you don’t even have to knead it. You can make this super quickly and with almost no effort!
I am not exaggerating when I say that ANYONE can make this bread. Simply stir the ingredients together, let it sit, pour it in a bread pan, and bake it. It’s ridiculously easy and just as good as any difficult bread recipe!
See look! A 3-year old can make it!
Did I mention that it’s made with 100% whole wheat flour? Yep. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better.
Simple Stir-and-Pour Bread
- 4 cups whole wheat flour (I use freshly ground hard white wheat)
- 2 teaspoons active rise yeast
- 2 Tablespoons sucanat or sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 egg (optional)
- ¼ cup heavy cream (optional)
- Stir all ingredients together.
- Cover and allow it to sit for 30 minutes.
- Pour contents into a well-buttered loaf pan.
- Bake in a 350° for 50-60 minutes or until evenly browned.
- Allow it to sit in the pan for 15 minutes.
- Remove the loaf to let it cool completely before slicing.
I almost never add the egg or cream when I make this. I like to keep it as simple as possible!

I made this bread yesterday. I was looking for a delicious and easy recipe to make along side a pot of chicken noodle soup. DELICIOUS!! My family and I love this bread and I am amazed at how easy it is to make. Thank you for the recipe and I will continue to make this bread and give it as gifts. Much better than store bought. Laura for the win, again :)

I have been delighted to use Wheat Montana’s Prairie Gold flour for years – my local Walmart sold it for 10 pounds at $6.00! But now I can’t find it anywhere online or in a store. Where do you get yours? Thanks for the wonderful recipes!
Laura says
I order my wheat through Azure Standard. Our Walmart used to sell it too and no longer does. I miss it!

My favorite stir-and-pour bread is actually beer bread. But I made this once and remember it being a really nice change of pace as it didn’t have the the hoppy tang that beer bread has. Both are great conveniences – just depends on how mild a flavor you need. Thanks for the reminder of this one!
When I made it I used 1/3 white flour and 2/3 oat flour and the flavor was delicious.

This recipe is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Simplicity yet wholesome. I do have a question though. Can I substitute the whole wheat flour for almond flour or another GF flour?
Laura says
I would imagine that a basic blend of GF flours would work, but I’m really not sure about Almond Flour!
Amanda says
Do you think this could work using sourdough starter? My girls love making (and eating) this bread, and I have some starter and it got me thinking…
Laura says
I love the idea, but I’m not experienced enough with sourdough to know how it would work to do it!
Christine Gregory says
I only have white bread flour. Will it work in this recipe?
Thanks.
Laura says
Yes I believe so!
