You know how much I love butter? That is how much Malachi, our nine year old, loves Legos. The kid plays with them for hours every day, won a $10,000 scholarship because of his Lego dreams, and has ideas for making Legos a part of his career/business once he’s a grown-up.
You can imagine, then, how much Malachi has been wanting to visit LEGOLAND. We’ve not been able to make it all the way to California to visit the Legoland, but we did provide Malachi with a fun trip over the weekend to the Legoland Discover Center in Kansas City. We were headed that way anyway for our church youth leadership (LTC), so we left a day early to make this happen for Malachi.
We arrived and found a spot in the parking garage with one very excited little boy. I wish you could have seen his joy. As we made our way up the stairs out of the parking garage, there in front of Malachi was the Legoland building. He paused, took a deep breath, and said, “Mom, do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this?” Oh yes, Son. I know. :)
For the next four hours, Malachi and Daddy took it all in. They rode the ride, looked at all the exhibits, watched the 4-D movie, visited Lego Academy to learn more about building – basically experienced the most Lego fun ever, according to the nine year old. Tired as he was that night, he couldn’t wind down to go to sleep until after midnight.
In an effort to save money and have more age appropriate fun, the older boys and I went to Union Station and walked the shopping mall during that time. Once we all met back up, it was so much fun to see pictures and hear Matt and Malachi telling all about their day. Here are a few highlights:
It is amazing all that can be built out of Legos!
Oh yes, Star Wars.
Malachi was hesitant to climb on top of the giraffe, but Matt assured him it was okay and threw him up there for some exploration.
This next one might be my personal favorite. My son, the owl, with the owl he just built in the Lego Academy:
Praise God for fun opportunities and the joy that comes with them. What a fun memory for Malachi and Matt to share!

I missed last week’s Gratituesday because I was in the hospital awaiting an emergency appendectomy. So I suppose the thing I am very grateful for is recovery (and good doctors and good hospitals etc!). The posts I intended to share were all about pride. I am thankful for the word of God and how what I learn there reveals my sin to me again and again!

Oh even as an adult, I do love me a good set of Legos. How wonderful you were able to provide Malachi with such an awesome memory. And seriously, don’t you wonder how long it takes for them to build some of those huge pieces? Crazy! I just don’t have the patience. :) I am thankful that I’m back to blogging after a way too long break. And for stopping by your blog to start my day with a smile! Blessings :) My latest post to share: http://www.nickischroeder.com/2014/04/time-for-little-perspective.html

My boys, 5 and 8, like Malachi, eat, sleep and breathe Legos! We all enjoyed (even my 9 year old daughter) the pictures, and we are grateful for the blessing of Make-A-Wish who are sending us to FL this fall to Disney and LEGOLAND!!! I don’t know which place the boys are more excited about. :) Like you, it is not something we could afford. Grateful today for all those who give to Make-A-Wish, bringing joyful anticipation to a little 5 year old who has endured lots of rough days, and has many more ahead! God is so good!

We are also a Lego family. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love when the boys are occupied by them , building and creating. I hate them when I step on them and they are scattered all over the house. I am grateful for boys and houses and toys. We are blessed. I am most grateful for a risen Savior!

Just in your first paragraph I was thinking: “He’s got to come out here to SoCal and visit LEGOLAND! He would die and be in Lego Heaven! I’ve only been once when I was working with children several years ago. I haven’t taken my children b/c it’s pricier than it used to be and being on 1 income we have limits ;) But my oldest daughter has been twice with a friend and fieldtrip and loves it! Hopefully some day you’ll make it out this way to enjoy Sunny SoCal!
I’m thankful that I had the last week plus to spend with my girls as the 2 in school were on Easter break. Got to play at the beach, enjoy friends, rest, be with family, and celebrate my middle daughter turning 6! I was so grateful to see her excitement throughout the whole day! Everywhere we went she wanted everyone to know it was her birthday. Thank you Lord for the joy of a precious little girl.

We have been lucky enough to visit THE Legoland in California and I have to say, if you ever get to take the boys there, they will not be disappointed!! We’ve been to the one in KC too and it’s nothing compared to SoCal!!! Think of how much fun he had in KC and multiply that by about a billion. Haha! I’m so glad he got to go. I have two young boys so I know how cool Legos are! :)
