Being sick, while it’s terribly un-fun, does give a person some time to reflect. Over the weekend, as I lay in bed trying to recover from the flu, I was able to do some good thinking – as much as a person can think with a foggy brain, that is.
I was on the verge of feeling sorry for myself. I hate being stuck in bed. I hate seeing my kids suffering. I hate that Matt was having to take care of everything that I should have been helping him with.
And then, I read some emails from some of you who are struggling mightily with family members who have health problems. I learned of some terrible health situations from family members in our congregation. Some of my friends on Facebook shared prayer needs that hit me hard.
I stopped feeling sorry for myself right away. What our family is suffering with isn’t fun…but it’s just the flu. It’s normal. It happens. We’ll get over it. We’re already working our way back to normal (as in, the kids felt up to getting the swords out and swinging them today).
Justus had received the WOW Hits 2011 CD for Christmas and Matt put it in for me to listen to while I rested. I heard a song that was new to me, and I just couldn’t get enough. I played it over and over. I’m excited to share it with you here.
The song is Let the Waters Rise by Mikes Chair. It is a message of comfort, especially to those of you going through difficult times. I pray that it will be a blessing to all of you, whether you’re struggling, or whether you’re in the midst of calm and peace. God’s love IS enough. We can trust Him.

Well said Laura. I’m thankful I get to be a stay at home mama to our one year old. Through God’s grace, my husband’s job has been sufficient, even though we never thought it would be.

I’m glad you guys are feeling better. It’s refreshing to hear someone talk about how God is enough. If more people would have your attitude this world would be a much better place!

I am thankful that the Lord is in control. The last two years our life has been on a changing cycle. I have learned and continue to learn that Jehovah God is in control. So thankful for this…. I can cling to Him.

Get Well Soon, Laura and family! Our family hasn’t had the flu, but other various viruses/asthma troubles for the past few weeks. Still can be thankful, though, even in those times….just like you’ve mentioned.

We have heard of two families with awful tragedies this week. The son of our friends was found dead. He was only 30 and had misused drugs for many years. Our dear friends love the Lord, and this heartbreaking news is beyond words.
The other tragedy involved friends of my parents. A young mum died in childbirth. THis was her 5th child, so she leaves them and her husband. Heartbreaking.
I almost died having our last child. It brought home to me… it really could have been me. How good God was to us, as a family, that He sovereignly chose to make me well again. Sooooo much to be thankful for.

We were just having a discussion Sunday about being thankful for the Bible teaching we are currently receiving, so it seemed appropriate to mention that in today’s post.

I am so thankful for what Jesus did for me. I am so thankful he changed my life and calls me His friend. I’m also blessed to have such a great husband and family.

I hope you feel better soon.
What a great time to relax and reflect on God’s blessings even though you’re sick.

Isn’t it amazing how others pain can make our lives seem so blessed. We often complain about the negatives in our lives instead of looking at the positives. Yes, being sick is no fun, but it gives our bodies, minds and soul time to rest and reflect on the things in life that are important. Yes, the laundry needs to be done so we have clothes to wear, but it isn’t going to help us or our family get to heaven. We need to look at life like Paul and be content in all things, even the flu.

I love this song, too. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness a few months ago and I am grateful for every good day I have. We truly take our health for granted until we don’t feel well. I know God will see me through.

Hey Laura, thanks for sharing! beautiful song! I have a cold now myself. I rarely get sick, so this is a new thing lol.
Something my pastor said to me back when my mom was so sick (before she passed). She was telling me how her one sister was real sick, and another was just diagnosed w/cancer, and her nephew was in the hospital. And yet here she was being my strength that i needed. I said to her, my issue must be so small to what you are going thru, and I’m making it larger than it is. She laughed, and said I have a big family. And she does! (15 brothers and sisters, and some who have gone onto be w/the Lord)
Sure our problems, or issues we are facing might seem small compared to others, but we are still facing those problems. We can’t minimize our own thinking others are going through tougher ones. We still have feelings. :-)
Praying you all feel better soon!

I am SO SO grateful that my husband and his coworkers are safe! They had a HUGE fire at their chemical plant today. I worry about the one contractor still missing, but I am so grateful that my husband and everyone else I know there is safe. So I’m grateful God watched over them and I’m grateful for their emergency response team.

I’ve missed you and I’m SO glad to be doing Gratituesday again. I’m also glad to hear your family is on the mend. It’s probably all of that homemade chicken soup you whipped up ahead of time for sick days, right? ;)
As I’ve read your posts the last few days, I’ve pictured you and the boys cuddling while being sick together,(Well, that’s what my boys want to do when they don’t feel good)and it made me think about spending precious time with my kids, and walking through life’s ups and downs with them. Today I’m grateful for my Mommy/Zoe time and my parenting time-line exercise.
I love the song you posted! :)
