Last time, we talked about working hard to make sure our relationship with God is strong and alive so that we can be readily equipped to meet the needs of our husband.
Today, let’s talk about praying for our husbands.
Besides making sure your relationship with God is what it should be, praying for your husband is one of the most important things you can do as his help meet. You may not be able to change anything about your husband. You may not be able to help your husband be successful at his work. You may not be able to make your husband become a stronger spiritual leader.
But God can.
God loves your husband more than you do. God wants your husband to be spiritually minded. God wants your husband to love Him and serve Him. God wants your husband to meet your needs and the needs of your family.
You can talk to your husband about these desires. You can hurt for your husband when he struggles. You can encourage your husband to do more of the things you want him to do. You can beg your husband to become more of the man you want him to be.
But most of the time, you just need to shut-up and pray.
Love your husband. Respect your husband. Take care of your husband’s physical needs. Listen to your husband. Be kind to your husband.
And pray for your husband.
Pray for his role as a father. Pray for his role as your husband. Pray for his work. Pray for his other relationships. Pray for his struggles. Pray for his weaknesses. Pray for his strengths. Pray for his spiritual growth.
The prayer of a righteous [wo]man is powerful and effective. (Read James 5:13-18.)

I pray for my husband to be protected. Its a hard world and continually beats our husband’s morale and provides them with endless temptations to protect against. I pray for his mind, his mouth, and his eyes. I pray for him to have wisdom to speak and opportunities to witness to those he works with. I pray for him to continue to be a strong leader in our church and home. I pray for strong relationships with male friends, for our marriage and for his parenting. I find as I pray for him it humbles me to make sure to pray that my heart is right towards him and in all these areas. This book sounds like an excellent resource.

I pray for my husband’s work and fathering. And also that he will be walking every day in God’s call. I don’t remember to pray for him often enough, though. I used to pray sporadically that he would be more health-conscious and try to lose weight. Last year he did, he lost 60 pounds, all that he needed to lose! That was a definite answer to prayer!
Danielle says
My hubby and I pray for each other and our children before we leave for ours jobs and the children before they go off to school.
I ALWAYS specifically pray that he only has eyes for me, and is only attracted to me. No need to pray for him not to be tempted if he is only attracted to me! And he prays for the same for me. Then always favor… favor w/the court system, other lawyers, co-workers etc, and that they all have favor w/him!

Good morning! I pray for my husband to have wisdom in raising our children, that he will fulfill God’s purposes for his life and that God’s priorities will be my husband’s as well. I also pray for his health and for him to have favor in his work. I know I have a lot more to learn, and always want to be praying what’s on God’s heart for him, not just what I want. I’m so glad there is a book out there to help wives pray!

Jocelyn says
My husband is currently out of work and has been for quite a few months now. While I’ve been trying to be a supportive wife and not “nag” him too much about finding employment, I admit that some days it is harder than others. His motivation is low because he is coming up against fierce competition in his field and jobs that pass him by because he is a recent graduate with hardly any experience. I needed to be reminded that the most important thing I can do to support him is to pray for him. So I will be daily praying that the Lord gives him the motivation and confidence he needs and that he will be strengthened by the Lord as well.
Jocelyn says
Oh and I’m also an FBS facebook fan as well!
OM says
My husband just joined ROTC at a university that he attends. My prayer has been that God would shield my husband’s eyes and cover his ears from all the evil that he would come across. I also pray that my husband would be a great witness to all the men that he comes in contact with daily.
Sandi says
I started a 30 day prayer cycle (complete with bible verses)for my husband. I feel like I’m more in tune to his needs and his relationship to God. The other day he found the print out and was suprised that I would take the time to pray for him on a daily basis(more than just a simple prayer of thanks and protection). I have seen him pick up his bible more and start just filling up on the Word. This has been a blessing for both of us.

Jenn @ Beautiful Calling says
My deepest heartfelt cry to the Lord is that he would draw my husband closer to him, to a more intimate relationship with him. For the closer he is to Christ, the better man, husband, father, worker etc. he can be!
I say this is my heartfelt cry because I often pray this at the church alter on Sundays with tears streaming down my face.
And I would love to read this book! :)
Meagan says
I would love to win a copy of this book! As I am new to praying (and Christianity in general) I would think this book would be a great reference for me to learn how to pray for my husband! I want to know how I should pray for him and hope he begins to walk towards Christ with me!
Thanks,
Meagan
Dawnette Thomas says
I pray for the Spirit to intervene at his work – to bring him guidance, give him the urge to speak on Jesus’ behalf, to give him patience when dealing with stubbornness and tradition and for his thoughts to be pure and unselfish. This brings about such peace and comfort for our family.
Kari says
“You may not be able to make your husband become a stronger spiritual leader.
But God can.”
This one hit me like a ton of bricks. I’ve brought it up to my husband and mentally complained about his leadership to God but I haven’t really prayed like I should about this situation. This is something that I’m going to fervently pray for. My husband is so wonderful and I feel bad that I don’t pray for him like I know I should.
I think I need to go back and read the post about making sure my relationship with God is strong and alive. =)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about marriage!

I love this post. I pray often for my husband and my love to be divine. I know this sounds cheesy, but it is something I have prayed since we were dating. I believe God will clean out our fleshly ideas of love and give us a truly godly, sacrificial love for one another as we grow in Him.

Michele says
If I remember, I like to ask my husband what I can be praying for him. I should do it daily, because on the days that I make it a point to ask him, I know that I’m praying what’s on his heart, and agreeing with him. Then I also like to find a good scripture to pray over him, and then I’ll often text the scripture to him during the day, just to let him know that I really am praying for him, and to encourage him. Thanks for the opportunity to win this book!!

As the wife of a Brazilian who lives in the midst of a very sensual society, I pray fervently for the purity of my husband’s mind in the midst of a perverse culture; and that as his eyes are bombarded by pornographic advertisements and aggressive women, he will be physically attracted only to me and my specific physical attributes.

I pray for my husband’s work. He is president of his company, but employs his brothers and his father, which can be a difficult relationship to balance. I try not to be an added burden to his day, as they can be stressful working with family.
Brittany says
I pray daily that God will give my husband wisdom to lead our family in a way that is honoring to Him.
Andrea says
I forget to pray for my husband when everything is happy and hunky dory at home. So, I haven’t been praying like I should!
I pray for him to have the strength he needs in his many responsibility areas, to lead us in the right direction with the right attitude about things, and that he will feel more of an urge to go to God in prayer or through His word with me. I am conflicted about asking him to pray for me or us or the situation. I didn’t want to usurp his role, but sometimes I just NEED it. I didn’t used to, but now I do on occasion.
Andrea says

I pray that my husband will receive encouragement and guidance from the Lord as he seeks to serve Him more. His business is failing and the financial burden is great. I pray that my husband would find employment (or a way to earn money to support his family) doing something that satisfies him.
Shelley C says
My prayer for him is that he would be an influence in his grandchildrens lives. Now that we’ve raised ours, he sort of ‘checked out’ in the spiritual example effort. I would like to see us shepharding their lives and reinforcing what their parents are teaching. The kids are doing exceptional work raising these kids…I’m so proud of them!

I pray that God will bless my husbands hands, all that he puts his hands to; his job, help him in his job, help him to work for God and not for man, help him in his discouragement over his present job; help him in his discouragement that he feels that he is not providing well for his family; and that he keeps growing into the man that God intends for him to become.

I pray for my husband to be a man after God’s own heart, a man that passionately pursues God, and is on-fire and in love with Him, first and foremost. So I pray for enough relief that he will be able to do what God wants him to, for strenghth to be the father/husband/friend that he wants to be.
jessica says
I’ve prayed for years that God will make my husband the godly man He desires him to be…a leader in our home and church, etc. I’ve prayed that God will bring godly men into his life who will encourage him and challenge him in his walk. Recently I’ve seen tangible evidence of God answering these prayers….My husband is now involved in a small group Bible study with a few great Christian men, who are speaking truth and encouragement into his life. He’s just gotten involved in ministry in our church, and lately he’s been coming to me more and more often saying things like, “Let’s spend some time reading God’s word and praying together tonight”. God answers prayers!!! It’s exciting to see how He is at work in my husband’s life!

I pray for wisdom and discernment for my husband in this wild world of sin and confusion. It’s not easy to live in a way that God pleases amongst those unsaved and we have to be living testimonies before men. I always pray that God will teach and guide my husband in his walk, that in whatever my husband does, God will be there to guide and help. :-) I married a good man and God has been very good to us.

I pray that God would continue to mold my husband into the leader He desires him to be in our family. He’d been deployed 2 1/2 of the last 4 years and it’s been difficult re-establishing relationships with our children on a personal, face-to-face level and stepping back into a Godly leadership role as we had to exist in his absence. I pray also that I would be the help-meet he needs me to be and not hinder him in re-taking that role.

I pray for my husband’s mind to be protected while he is at work. Both construction and Army can be places where a lot of foul language, nasty music, and vile topics are flung around every day. Not only did he attend but also my brother-in-law! Now, for the softening of his heart and his ears be open to the calling of the Holy Spirit! I too need prayer for the fact that there are many times to where I just need to SHUT UP AND PRAY… May the Lord continually bless you and your family… Thank you for such a powerful message!

todah rabah (thank you) for writing a book as a guideline for helpmeets and praying. Do you every give a book to someone who can’t afford one? Do you have any used or damaged ones around? If so, please contact me, I’d love to have one of them.
May our father in Heaven bless you

I pray for my future husband by asking the lord to change me.To make me the best help meet i can be that does him no harm but good all of his days. I pray gods love for him shines through me and that he knows i and god love and accept him the way he is.He need not hold a position of autheority in the church to make me happy or to please the lord. But i pray the lord give me wisdom to love him in such away he feels like the king of my heart and leader in our marriage.

I pray my husband is delivered into spiritual confidence and leadership in God, that he lives for himself and God and no one else, making our family a priority, losing his childlike ways and helps me set a balanced example for our children.

We’ve been married for almost 4 years now,My husband doesn’t believe in Christ. He believes in spirit mediums and the dead. My heart breaks at the very thought of this. Please pray for him, pray for the salvation of his soul, pray that he may come to know Christ.Pray for me too that i may be strengthened as I pray for him, that i may be able to control my anger towards him.

Im not sure how to pray for my husband! He has a huge calling on his life, busy writing books. This does not bring us an income, he has been struggling for 3 years to find work and all the open doors seem to shut just before a promise of something happening. He has also tried a couple of diff business ideas. All have failed. Hoq do i pray for God to open a door of income?
We a struggling beyond belief, dont know what God wants for us anymore?
Laura says
Just keep praying. I would suggest praying specifically for clarity – that God would show you and your husband what He wants him to be doing for income and to follow his passion for writing. God is always faithful. Pray for courage to follow through with what God wants you to do…then do it. God will provide for your needs, without a doubt.
