Becoming a Better Help Meet: Pray for Your Husband (+ a Giveaway!!)

Be sure to catch up on the rest of this series here.
Last time, we talked about working hard to make sure our relationship with God is strong and alive so that we can be readily equipped to meet the needs of our husband.
Today, let’s talk about praying for our husbands.
Besides making sure your relationship with God is what it should be, praying for your husband is one of the most important things you can do as his help meet. You may not be able to change anything about your husband. You may not be able to help your husband be successful at his work. You may not be able to make your husband become a stronger spiritual leader.
But God can.
God loves your husband more than you do. God wants your husband to be spiritually minded. God wants your husband to love Him and serve Him. God wants your husband to meet your needs and the needs of your family.
You can talk to your husband about these desires. You can hurt for your husband when he struggles. You can encourage your husband to do more of the things you want him to do. You can beg your husband to become more of the man you want him to be.
But most of the time, you just need to shut-up and pray.
Love your husband. Respect your husband. Take care of your husband’s physical needs. Listen to your husband. Be kind to your husband.
And pray for your husband.
Pray for his role as a father. Pray for his role as your husband. Pray for his work. Pray for his other relationships. Pray for his struggles. Pray for his weaknesses. Pray for his strengths. Pray for his spiritual growth.
The prayer of a righteous [wo]man is powerful and effective. (Read James 5:13-18.)

I have been praying for my husband to find gainful employment. He spent two years trying to get his own business going only to have it fail. He needs to feel his income-earning worthiness again.

I have been praying for my husband’s safety {he’s deployed overseas} and that our time apart be a time of spiritual growth for him {and me too!}

I am praying for his back. He has had a bad back since I have known him, but I see the discouragement and depression that it causes him, not to mention the pain. So I pray for enough relief that he will be able to do what God wants him to, for strenghth to be the father/husband/friend that he wants to be.

I’ve prayed for years that God will make my husband the godly man He desires him to be…a leader in our home and church, etc. I’ve prayed that God will bring godly men into his life who will encourage him and challenge him in his walk. Recently I’ve seen tangible evidence of God answering these prayers….My husband is now involved in a small group Bible study with a few great Christian men, who are speaking truth and encouragement into his life. He’s just gotten involved in ministry in our church, and lately he’s been coming to me more and more often saying things like, “Let’s spend some time reading God’s word and praying together tonight”. God answers prayers!!! It’s exciting to see how He is at work in my husband’s life!

I am currently praying for my husband as he applies for a new job within his company. This new job seems like it was tailor-made for him, but there’s a chance he may not get it.

I pray for wisdom and discernment for my husband in this wild world of sin and confusion. It’s not easy to live in a way that God pleases amongst those unsaved and we have to be living testimonies before men. I always pray that God will teach and guide my husband in his walk, that in whatever my husband does, God will be there to guide and help. :-) I married a good man and God has been very good to us.

I pray for my husbands safety at work, for both of us for wisdom in raising our children.

I pray that God would continue to mold my husband into the leader He desires him to be in our family. He’d been deployed 2 1/2 of the last 4 years and it’s been difficult re-establishing relationships with our children on a personal, face-to-face level and stepping back into a Godly leadership role as we had to exist in his absence. I pray also that I would be the help-meet he needs me to be and not hinder him in re-taking that role.

I am praying for an older man who can spiritually mentor my husband (one of his desires), for more and deeper Christian male friends and that I will be sensative to ways I can encourage them, and that God would provide a job that he loves as much as his current ones and that he is just as good at as his current ones, but that would require less overnight trips and more time with us.
(Wow. That was quite a run-on sentance!)

I pray for my husband’s mind to be protected while he is at work. Both construction and Army can be places where a lot of foul language, nasty music, and vile topics are flung around every day. The spiritual battle can be intense and it is won in renewing our minds through God’s Word – but it is a daily battle, and sometimes even physically tiring.

I pray for him for the endurance b/c his job is demanding & I pray thanking God for my husband who is so willing to work so hard to allow me to stay home.

Not only did he attend but also my brother-in-law! Now, for the softening of his heart and his ears be open to the calling of the Holy Spirit! I too need prayer for the fact that there are many times to where I just need to SHUT UP AND PRAY… May the Lord continually bless you and your family… Thank you for such a powerful message!
