When I announced the little Green Project in this post…Sarah admitted,
“Whenever I think of green in March I think of Green shakes at McDonalds. (Horrible I know, but they are so yummy!)”
I haven’t had one of those in forever, in fact I forgot they existed. BUT, since she brought it up, that’s all I’ve been able to think about. Mmmm! Shamrock Shakes.
SO, I did what I MUST. I tried to re-create a minty milkshake. They aren’t the healthiest things on the planet…but because I knew the ingredients in them I KNOW they’re healthier than the McD’s version.
And because I made them myself, I know they’re less expensive than the McD’s version, so I saved some green.
Okay, so my milkshake isn’t green. I tried to find some fresh mint, but I wasn’t successful. I had to use mint extract instead.
Hey, if you want to add green food coloring…I’ll look the other way.
Instead, I put a green straw in mine and took a picture of it on my green tea towel.
We all found this milkshake to be SO refreshing and a very fun treat (that I’ll probably make once a year…sometime in March.) My men love it when I experiment with recipes for you. :)
March Minty Milkshake (Oh how I love coming up with ridiculous recipe titles)
3 cups vanilla ice cream (unless you’re using homemade, I recommend Breyer’s ice cream since at least it uses real ingredients)
1 cup whole milk
1 1/2 t. pure mint extract
Mix all ingredients well in a blender. Makes 4 one cup servings.
So that was my fun little Green Project this week. What fun little Green Project did YOU come up with to share?
Blog about anything green…saving green, eating greens, crafts that are green, ANYTHING you want to that has any possible thing relating to the color green. Link up with us here so that we can come read about YOUR little Green Project!

I love mint cookies. I don’t usually like other mint items. I’ve tried candies, cakes, brownies and just not cared for them.

Making green: I babysit for a couple of precious children (and one more coming soon). It’s my way of sharing God’s love with some dear souls. Children are so often not valued today.
Saving green: Like Laura, we do many things ourselves from food from scratch, baking, baby wipes, cloth diapers, coop shopping, using local farmers to bartering with friends to share our talents.
St. Patrick: We’re Irish and we love reading the story of St. Patrick and celebrating the conversion of our hearts on his feast day.
It’s very green in our part of the country right now. Trees are budding, daffodils are blooming, camellias are finishing up. Green reminds me of LIFE.

Thanks for hosting this carnival Laura, I had several “green” ideas floating around my head and needed a kick in the pants to get them going!

That milkshake sounds so good. My husband detests mint, so we don’t get mint anything very often. Thank you for sharing–and hosting!

Add some spinach :-) You won’t taste it, it will add nutritional value, and it will be GREEN!! I tried a green smoothie for the first time and it was great!

Unfortunately, our blender is broken, so I’ll have to try the milkshake another time. But I LOVE mint. My post was about green eggs. Not so exciting.

Love the shake. I would have made mine mint chocolate!

Yum! My husband loves the McD’s milkshakes… or loved… until last year we got one and were so sad because after eating healthy for a year they were pretty gross! He will be excited for these!
Turkey Hill Ice Cream is even better than Bryers– if you get it in NE. It doesn’t even have natural flavors!

Edit to above:
Turkey Hill All Natural – that is.
Ingredients: CREAM, NONFAT MILK, SUGAR, VANILLA, VANILLA BEAN.

Hi Laura –
We had just made some homemade (raw, goat) milk ice cream last weekend for Jake’s birthday, so we had about a quart left over…
And lemme tell you, it makes some TASTY green milkshakes. :) We added about a heaping teaspoon of spirulina to the mixture, and it turned it a lovely green – without changing the taste (always good).
