The big topic of many conversations right now is: What are you doing for New Year’s Eve?
In case you’d like to hear about our super exciting plans…We will be spending some time over at our friends’ house…then come home and go to bed. Around 10:00. We’re oodles of fun like that.
Okay, actually… I’M the one that will probably go to bed around 10:00. Others around me may stay up and play games…we’re spending some time with family right now, so I’m not really sure who will be around and who will have other plans. There certainly may be a game of Manhattan in the works.
Last year I was so excited for New Year’s Eve and made big plans to stay up and celebrate with the family. The first part of the night was great…but then I think I started “resting my eyes” around nine and the next thing I knew I was waking up on the couch when Matt and the boys said, “Oh look…it’s midnight.”
I throw a wild party, don’t I?
I figure the new year will come whether I’m awake or asleep, right? So there you have it. My boring and non-traditional plans.
What do you have going on for New Year’s Eve? Planning to stay up until midnight…or celebrating with a pillow and quilt?
Camille says
We have small children, as do most of our friends, so staying up until midnight is not on the cards. So a few years ago we started hosting a brunch on the morning of New Year’s Day. We’re all up early anyway with the kids and we thought it would be nice to celebrate the new year together before nap time! This year I’m even getting a pinata for the kids! We start around 9 or 10 AM and people are welcome to stay for as long or as little as they want.

Ooh, I like this idea!
Mona @ Healthy Homesteading says
We have no plans. My husband and maybe two of my kids and I will probably be watching a Netflix movie online and we will probably miss the whole midnight thing. Actually, it’s sounds to me like a very fun night ;o)

My family always goes to our pastor/friends house for a night of games and food! We try to make it until 12 but everyone starts yawning around 10pm! :)But for some reason our kids are still playing and having a good ole time around 12am! ;)

I used to be able to stay up, and may, but I much prefer sleeping. We will go to church friend’s for a few hours, then home before 10 because J doesnt like being out late anymore.

That’s so funny you posted this! I was just asked by my almost 11 yr. old daughter if I will be able to handle staying up until midnight with her and Daddy, or if I will konk out around 10:00 again this year. It’s a big joke around here actually. I say I will stay up and each year my eyelids get the best of me right along side of my other 7 yr. old daughter. Pathetic really. I wish my body could handle it. I really do. Does it count that I used to stay up every year BEFORE kids?
Ezzy says
I belive I will be out at 9:30. It keeps with my work schdule.

Well, I am so excited for tonight. Even if I wanted to sleep it would be impossible. Imagine a fireworks show all around our apartment. All of the families in Albania save money for fireworks. At midnight the sky is as bright as day. Our 17 month old likes fireworks and smiles and says “boom” when he hears them.
Laura says
Wow…that sounds well worth staying up for!!! Miss you guys and hope you’re doing well. I can’t believe your little guy is already 17 months!
Rebecca says
We are planning to take naps this afternoon, in preparation for tonight. The kids are going to try to stay up so we’ve planned a busy night to keep them moving. We’ll play some card games and then race each other on Mario Kart. We plan to have a wii sports competition at around 10 to keep the blood flowing. Snacks at 11ish will help, too. Of course, we’ll all be in bed by 1:01. That’s the plan, anyway. We’ll see whether we make it. Haha!
Kellie says
I want to be home in bed sleeping, as my eyelids start drooping around 8. My extended family always gets together, and my 7 year old wants to go this year AND stay until midnight. My hubby is staying home with our younger two…he is the lucky one!

We’ll be having dinner at my mom’s with my in-laws too, grandma, and the kids. It’s our annual “Wii-nament” – it’s fun to be able to play the new games my nieces got for Christmas. But we’ll all be home and in bed by probably 9:30… love it!
Sarah Ruszkowski says
Oh we always ring in the New Year with our favorite Party Pals…Pillow and Blanket. :-) New Years is not a huge event in our house. Guess we figure the New Year will arrive whether we are asleep or not. Might as well be rested and start it off right. We are HUGE partiers over here!!!!
MamaHen says
We have the flu here at my house so I am soooo hoping everyone is asleep at midnight and NOT throwing up.
Jessie Chilson says
Even though it is our anniversary, no, we will NOT be up! Hubby has to be at work every morning (today and tomorrow included) at 5 am and I have three kids ages 5, 3, and 2! Baby #4 will be here in about 4 weeks! I think at this point EVERYONE, around here, would be much happier with the sleep ;)
Shawna Cale says
We used to have family over and play games and have lots of fun, but after child #3 we have just spent the evening with our kids at home playing games and watching a movie, toasting at midnight and going to bed. We had been invited to a couple parties this year and hadn’t decided what to do until Sunday my dd said, “Guess what my favorite Holiday is?” I figured it’s the day after Christmas so it must be Christmas,”no”. Her birthday is coming up, “no”. “It’s New Year’s Eve, because we just spend it as a family playing games.” So I said, no to the invitations and figured I only have a few more years having all my children home to play games on New Year’s eve.

I’m the only one up at midnight most years so I planned to get the family bundled up to view Denver’s fireworks at 9P. Going to skip it since this is *by far* the coldest day we’ve had so far this winter…in the negatives!!!!!
Instead, we’re ordering Chinese food and playing family games for the night while watching the ball drop on TV. Let’s see who’s up!!
Happy New Year!

We like hosting New Years at our home. Usually we just have family over, but this year we invited some friends and their kiddos over! Making my yummy chili along with various snacks and a easy sounding punch recipe….although considering I only got about 4 hours of “sleep” last night, I may have to take a nap today so I am ready for midnight!
Happy New Year everyone…may 2011 have many blessings for each of you!

We meet in a local hall for a prayer meeting at 10pm. We’ll be home by about 11pm, and stay awake just to ‘welcome in the New Year’….then have long lie tomorrow morning!
Happy New Year to you all x

We will be joining some other families for games, food, etc. At this point I’m tired of visiting and food, so I’m usually not much fun. Around 10:30, the guys will go to our local sports complex, which is open all night. I will go home and to bed. I always use the animals as an excuse – someone has to take care of them, right?
Kristin says
With the blizzard we had last night that closed all the roads, plus the blizzard planned to start this afternoon, we get to stay home and go to sleep early! I mean, we will try to stay up for the kids, but I know my children… no matter how hard they try, they will be out before 10!
Dawn says
We have small children (6 and 3) Last year we stayed home and did a new years countdown early for them with noisemakers and sparkling grape juice. They had so much fun- I was really surprised that my 6 year old remembered that from last year. He asked for that “special drink” we had last year. We are hoping to find online a live stream of the celebration in Rio De Janeiro which would fall at around 9 here. Plus they are supposed to have a pretty fantastic fireworks display. Anyway- we are staying home with our kids!!
Charlotte Moore says
No staying up late for us. If we make it until 9 most nights we are doing good. HA!!! AFter all my husband gets up before 3a.m. so our bodies can’t take late nights.
I sort of like the way we party though. It doesn’t cost much and we are not out in the dangers of the world either.
HAPPY NEW YEAR and may 2011 be the best year yet!!!
Jeannie says
We’ll probably be in bed when the ball drops – or at least I hope so – we have an almost 3 yr old and a 1 month old. Everyone around here needs good sleep :)

We’re party animals. Take tonight, for example, we will have our usual finger foods (this year: fish sticks, chicken nuggets, tater tots, and mac n cheese– the top 4 health foods!) and enjoy “Mary Poppins” with the kiddos. Then we’ll put them to bed by 7, as usual. Then the hubster and I will either watch a movie or we’ll talk about watching a movie & how tired we are until we just go to bed around 9, as usual. Since Europe will have celebrated new years by then, we are okey dokey with that! :) Happy new year!
Oh, our new years day is even more exciting… doing some painting in our new house before football. Party animals I told ya!

Last year we had another young family over to our home. We put the kids to bed and we stayed up talking and having a blast. We made homemade pizzas as families, ate and ate and ate, had a little champage (and sparkling cider for my friend who was expecting) at midnight, visited for an hour more, then they packed their son into the car and drove home. They asked if we wanted to do it again this year but my husband has to work the overnight shift and I am the pregnant on and I don’t see well on the roads at night. So I am staying home with our son. I am making pizzas (right now actually) to send to work with my husband, along with some cookies and finger foods, as a treat to the other men on shift tonight. And I will have a nice quiet pizza, popcorn and movie night with our son.

Living in the Pacific NW, allows us to watch the ball go down in New York (9:00 our time) and go to bed. We watch the new year come in and then move on. It just dawned on me–we don’t have a TV this year–guess we won’t be watching the ball come down, just moving on!
Elizabeth says
Definitely celebrating with the pillow, comforter, and husband. :)
Amelia says
I will probably spend it in bed, or put my 13 month old son to bed and try to stay up reading a lovely book and sipping some tea. My husband will read a book also, and we will listen for the fireworks that will be set off in downtown Denver on the 16th Street Mall and go to bed soon afterward. We are also super exciting. :-)

Staying up!!! I love watching the ball drop on t.v. One of these years I would like to go to New York and see it in person. Each year my daughters BFF comes over and we just watch movies, eat snack foods and wait till midnight. Not big partiers, but lots of fun. Happy New Year!!

A local mom and pop diner in town does a family friendly New Years celebration, so we went with our friends/neighbors and just got back around 11pm. We got there at 8pm, ordered a late dinner and then a magician comes and does a show for the kids complete with balloon animals. They do a balloon drop to ring in the New Year at 10pm and then everyone goes home before the crazies are out on the roads. The kids are all tucked in bed now and I’m unwinding by reading some blogs. We’re homebodies, so going out late just isn’t our thing.

It’s 1:45 am here… Happy New Year! We were at a friend’s house until a lil bit ago. We had church until 10 pm, then went to our friend’s house. She had a lil get together w/some great food!

We went to friends’ house last night; every couple there either had a child under 3 or was expecting (or both, in our case). 4 infants and 3 little children made for an interesting night! Two out of the three littles were too stimulated to go to bed with all the people there – ours fell asleep 2 minutes after we got in the car to go home – at 1:30am (gulp). She woke up briefly at her usual time this morning, but after some snuggling, she was able to go back to sleep and all so we all got to sleep in!

This year we drove for an hour and a half to Mt Olive , NC and watched a giant pickle drop in a vat at 7:00 our time ( 12:00 GMT) to usher in the new year… It was hosted by a pickle company. They had a live band, and passed out pickles to snack on…the whole thing was over by 7:05 and we hopped in our car and drove back home… snug in our beds by 10:00!
Happy New Year!

Here is what I don’t understand though… Why do so many people with young children keep the children up. We have a 4 and 6 year old. We let them stay up a little late, after 9 but before 10. We talked about the new year, watched a movie and had dinner and dessert. But they definitely get the idea without being up until midnight.
