Have I ever told you about our science museum? (Yeah, okay it’s not OUR science museum…we just like to visit there.) It’s only about 25 minutes away from us and it is an incredible hands-on museum filled with all kinds of scientific wonders. We bought a family membership so we can go visit whenever we are able to.
Once a month, the museum hosts a “homeschool day” inviting families to come participate in the planned lesson for the day. Our kids have learned about building bridges and heating a home efficiently and everything you could ever want to know about reptiles (and then some!).
Before and after the program…the boys love to hang out in the great big room full on science exploration!
Here’a nice view of several of the tables filled with educational fun.
Asa’s trying to re-create one of the shapes on the table with his tangrams.
Here’s Elias doing…something cool…sorry I’m not as familiar with this activity. I think it has something to do with the speed of light? (Am I smarter than a first grader? Apparently not.)
Have you EVER seen an Operation game as big as ths one?
That poor patient has HUGE butterflies in his stomach.
It’s okay though…Dr. Justus is taking care of it.
I’m so grateful that we have such a neat facility so close to us and that our boys love exploring there. I love all the great things they’ve learned and that the hard working folks there are so “homeschooler” friendly. We can’t wait to go back next month!

When we lived in WA I found the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia, WA, to be very homeschool-friendly too. We went there so many times during our time in WA.
Your museum looks awesome. I’m loving the giant Operation game! Too cool!

How fun! I love that Operation table. It looks like Dr. Justus was taking his work very seriously too.

That Operation table is seriously cool! We may have to travel to your parts just to see that!

Oh man! That is so cool! I totally would love to have something like that nearby.

I love it when the community I live in has something that is hands on for the kids, very cool indeed.

Neato mosquito! Very nice! Some of my favorite childhood memories are of trips to fun museums. We live pretty far from any decent museum now, but when our kiddos get a wee bit older we’d love to take advantage of some of the fabulous museums in Atlanta.

Hi! I think this is my first time commenting here. It’s also my first time participating in a carnival. I love your site, and have enjoyed poking around, especially in the yummy looking recipes :)

What an awesome museum! I just got a family membership to the zoo so we can take part in their educational activities. I am looking forward to them and hope the kids enjoy it as much as your 4 apparently do.

That looks SO cool!! I don’t know that our sceince museum close to us has that- I didn’t get to go on that field trip. I want to go again though this Spring or summer.

how cool that would be and so many lessons that could be learned

I love great museums! They have hands on fun, which is the coolest way to learn, but often the least practical on an individual scale. They have enough people coming around that they can put on huge and awesome fun exhibits for all to enjoy. I love them (but possibly not quite as much as I love Gratituesday!).

How cool! You are such a good blogger and so good with pictures! I’m jealous!!!!!

We have a museum like that in our area. Our children love going there.

Thankful that two mothers (of school-age children) that I know are fighting and seeming to win the battle against cancer.

Hi there. We are in NE as well, I actually started reading your blog after it was featured in the paper, lol. Been a fan ever since! :O) I was wondering where this museum is at? We are in Utica, so I thought that perhaps it would be close to us as well. Thanks for the great posts, keep em comin’! :O)

I’m just now realizing that I somehow left a link to my menu plan by accident! I’m so sorry, Laura! I would delete it if I could, but I don’t see a way to do that. I’m linking it properly now even though it’s the next day if that’s all right. Sorry, again!

Forgot to add that I’m number 12, Laura, if you’d like to delete it!

Some friends of mine made an operation game that size for the “trunk or treat” their church hosted. I actually helped do some of the painting for it. They donated it to a local children’s hospital afterwards.
