It’s amazing that in our household of four boys we haven’t been to the emergency room more often {knocks on wood}.
Our oldest son holds the record for “most times in the ER for stitches.” For once, his brothers are okay with losing a competition. But by the way – why is it that most “emergencies” take place after normal business hours? (And why does a tiny piece of gauze cost $52 in the ER? Did you know you also pay a fee for the tray that holds the gauze? I am very serious.) I’d like to request that in the future, all accidents should take place between the hours of 8:00a-8:00p where stitches cost a fraction of the price. Is this too much to ask?
Just a few weeks ago, our youngest took a pretty hard spill off his bike – after normal business hours, of course. Not that I think about money when my child is bleeding. But still.
My husband was a rock star and spent about an hour and a half getting him cleaned up, comforted, and bandaged. Thankfully, we didn’t need an ER visit this time, and Malachi limped along for a few days while he healed up. The timing of Malachi’s fall was perfect (as if there’s ever a perfect time to fall off your bike?). What I mean is – we’d just received this First Aid Kit as a review item and were so very grateful to have all its contents on hand just when we needed it!
It contains everything a family needs to handle basic emergencies at home so a wound will be cleaned and bandaged properly. It holds everything from cold compresses to eye wash to bandages and gloves. We’ll probably keep ours in the car to have at all our sporting events. I’m not sure why we hadn’t thought of this genius idea before!
But allow me to share when I heard when I first asked my 15-year old son to unpack our new First Aid Kit and give me an idea of all it contained:
“Let’s see. Here is a bandage to use when someone gets stabbed. Here is a pair of small scissors…to cut out bullets. Here is a handy little barf bag…” And on he went…
Yes. For all of our many bullet removal and stab wound needs, we are now prepared, thanks to the MacGill First Aid Kit. And in a less likely, practically unimaginable event that one of our kids falls off his bike or turns an ankle on the basketball court, I suppose we’ll be prepared for that too.
We were especially impressed that the MacGill First Aid Kit came with so many items we didn’t already have but really do need. Sure we’ve always had bandaids and ointmen in our cabinet. But this little kit holds such a variety of helpful items beyond bandaids. And the best is that it holds a simple but thorough instruction card so that in the case of an emergency, we can reference it to see how to properly proceed with treating a wound.
Definitely check out this First Aid Kit! What a great family tool to have on hand.
You can win a free one when you enter the Rafflecopter below! I’ll draw a random winner on Wednesday, July 26.
Special thanks to the folks at MacGill for sending this First Aid Kit my way!

Bandaids, gauze, tape, etc etc!! It would be nice to have a good first aid kit on hand! Your son’s comments remind me of things my children would say, lol! :) Kids are hilarious!!

We have a first aid kit in our van, but it’s just stocked with the basic necessities like band-aids, gauze, and ointment. It would be good to have a few more things in there! Thanks!

I like to have tea tree oil – it instantly works on the pain of burns and insect bites.

About 10-12 years ago, our oldest managed to cut his chin. There wasn’t much blood but I could see that it needed stitches. Called our pediatrician for recommendations. She sent us to an urgent care. Because we had to wait for DH to get home (to watch younger ones) we arrived at urgent care 10 minutes before closing. The doctor said he needed to be seen by a plastic surgeon, and sent us to the ER. After waiting in the ER for 5 hours we finally got seen at 2 a.m. and he was stitched up by the P.A. (not plastic surgeon). We were told to come back the following week to get the stitches removed. I wearily informed the doctor we didn’t have 8 hours for such a simple procedure. A week later, I took the stitches out myself. I have since told the boys if they ever need stitches, I will lay them out on the dining room table and do it myself. They have taken the threat quite seriously and never cut themselves so severely again.
BTW, we stock cayenne pepper (to stop bleeding) in the first aid kit. We also have super glue and butterfly bandages. All work quite well.

We were just saying that we needed to upgrade the first aid supplies in the car for vacation. Don’t like being away from home without a good stock of basic supplies since we don’t know our way around at a new destination! It’s more than a bit stressful trying to find a Walgreens when someone is bleeding/puking/broken/screaming/turning white . . . . Thanks!

I’m always on the go with our Girl Scouts and keep bandaids, antiseptic wipes, and gloves on me at all times. The girls have made their own first aid kits out of old medicine bottles with these supplies to clip to their backpacks!

We seem to always forget our first aid kit when we’re out and then need something. Maybe it’s because we only have one, and I don’t feel like spending more money on another one. I’d love to win this one!!

L have bandaids, calamine lotion, aloe, neosporin, and a few other things that I keep in my car.

The one thing we seem to always require are the bandaids that are sold with antibiotic cream already on them. My husband LOVES these!

Oh could of use this at work yesterday. I tripped over a loose board at work and fell. Scrapped up my knee and even tore my pants.

Sounds like the best first aid kit ever. I have six kids ages 9 to 1 and they are always getting some kind of scrape or cut. This would be ever so handy. I hate running to get something from the ER especially after hours. That is happened to us a few times!
Tracey says
I typically have the basics on hand – bandaids, gauze, ointments. Having this kit at home would certainly come in handy!

I like to have bentonite clay on hand for bee stings.

We always have bandaids and neosporin handy! Alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, too. Thanks for the giveaway!

At the moment we are nearly bandaidless, so I guess we’ll need to take care of that! Besides that we have Redmond’s First Aid Clay, a boo boo blend of Lavender and Frankincense essential oils in fractionated coconut oil, gauze, rubbing alcohol, and tweezers. Looks like the kids got into the medical tape again. Thank you for a great give away and for a reason to check and see what needs re-stocking!

Your sons comments were hilarious! I married a nurse because blood is not my thing. However, he has actually been at work for almost every major injury the kiddos have had. Not cool ????
