Twitterless
ByDo any of you follow me on twitter?
Notice anything?
Like the fact that I never tweet?
I’m absolutely tweetless.
I tweet about as often as I wear high heels. (Remember, I don’t own any high heels.)
For whatever reason, I feel like I need to explain myself. Not that any of you are tattling about my twitter. It’s just my own self imposed twitter pressure.
At the risk of sounding like I’m bashing twitter and all of those who partake in twitterness (because I promise that I really, really am NOT against twitter)…I will try to explain my tweetlessness.
The biggest reason is lack of time. I feel like I am on the computer too much as it is. I’m constantly working to balance my computer time with my “hello I am your wife or mother” time.
When I am on the computer, I am working on upcoming blog posts and ideas. I am trying to catch up on emails. I have about three new ebooks I’m working on. I have other freelance work. I pay bills and order food and do banking from the computer. The computer and I are very good friends and we spend a lot of time together. Plenty of time.
Somehow the idea of Twittering causes me stress. It has from the beginning. I tried it because it came highly recommended by many people I respect and because I see it working well for many people. I know people enjoy following others on Twitter and it’s a great way to help your blog grow.
But it just doesn’t work for me.
So there you go. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I’ve been wanting to talk about this for several weeks now.
I’m not going to un-twitter myself. You can follow me if you want to. I may once in a blue moon (I have never seen a blue moon) update my twitter.
I just felt like I needed to share that with those that follow me on twitter and have nothing to follow.
Do you twitter? Does it work for you? Am I the only one who has twitterlessness?

This post is linked to Works for me Wednesday.

I’ve noticed your twitterlessness and I respect your twitterlessness. I use it, and I love it. When I have a question, real people answer me. ;-)
But… twitter can take over your real life if you let it. I’m desperately seeking that balance…

I am twitterless – don’t really know what it is, but I have a life outside of the computer world that I must attend to. I’m doing just fine without the twitter.
[Reply]
I hear you! I’m on twitter, but I’m never ON twitter. ;-) I still really don’t get it.

Hi, I’m new to your blog. Ah, I have a twitter account, but seldom remember to look at it. I just don’t “get it”.

I don’t get the social side of twitter, although I joined when a friend prompted me to. I tend to occasionally use it as a sort of personal shorthand diary type of thing.
Something I wanted to ask you for a while – do you use a microwave for cooking? I have cooked my vegetables in the microwave for years, but recently have heard that it kills all the nutrients. Have you heard this or have any thoughts about micro-cooking?

I’m twitterless too. It just seems like one more computer thing to manage and it makes my head hurt. I don’t think I can cram anymore computer stuff into my overfull brain.
[Reply]
I don’t twitter either. I don’t even have an account. I do have a facebook acct, but I never do it either. I feel like I spend too much time on the computer as it is.
[Reply]
If it’s any consolation, I had no idea you weren’t tweeting because I’m not on Twitter. So no expectations on my end. ;-)
I only just got on Facebook and I’m enjoying connecting with long-lost friends and family members I didn’t know I had (on my paternal side) but if that becomes too time consuming, they’ll have to email me because FB will go “bye bye” as well.
[Reply]
I don’t twitter, but I do use facebook, which is the same idea because you update your status and people respond. I like it because I can ask for advice and my friends can respond and help me out. That’s about the only reason I use it. :)
[Reply]
I’m tweetless, twitterless..whatever! :-)
I have never even been to twitter- ahh, there I confessed it. I feel better now!

Mark Twain once started a letter I am sorry this letter is so long, I did not have time to write a short one. That’s one reason I do not tweet.
[Reply]
I don’t spend much (any) time on twitter but it picks up my blog posts so those that do can see them there. I really get kind of stressed whenever a new social media thing pops up-ack, one more thing to keep track of ;) I hear you.
[Reply]
Ok, dumb question, but what is twitter?
Ha, I have no clue. I have a blog, have email, been tempted to join facebook…but I have no idea what twitter is?
[Reply]
I only Tweet two or three times a day, but I love checking in…more than I thought I would.
Fwiw, I shared my first kiss with my dh under a blue moon. It wasn’t really blue. Did you know that a blue moon is actually when two full moons occur in one month? The second one is the blue moon. No, I’m not a trivia buff or a science geek. It was that whole first kiss thing…and, you know, in case you want to mark your calendar to tweet. ;-)

I tweet when I update my blog & link to it with my tweet (just copy & paste the URL)

Non tweeter here. Never have quite understood the twitter thing. I do have a facebook account and I enjoy keeping in touch with friends that way as I’m able.
[Reply]
Hasn’t worked for me yet either :-/
[Reply]
To me it is one more way to pull us away from our families. One more stress. I dont need it :)
[Reply]
I don’t Twitter, kind of. I have an account and I use it but not what it’s intended for. I Twitter with a Twist.
I use it as an easy format for storing the cute and quirky things my kids say that I want to remember. Or the toddler speak interpretation of words. (Such as Pink-A-Boo my daughter plays instead of Peek-A-Boo)
I’ve considered adding it as sidebar content to my blog but wonder if my readers will think my kids are as cute as I do, but for now this works for me as a great way to journal their sayings.

I meant to say too that I can’t blame you for not updating, I don’t get it either and it does seem like a huge drain of time.
[Reply]
I completely understand.
I haven’t signed up for Twitter because I know it would consume too much of my time. I recently broke my Digg habit and don’t want to go through that again. :)

This post has me cracking up, first because I was just thinking the other day, Laura is never on twitter! And second b/c my sil just posted about how Twitter “works for her!”
Still laughing!

I can so relate..I tried it and to be honest…I just don’t like it. I don’t have the extra time to Twitter.
Thanks for sharing.
Be blessed.

I’m twitterless also. I just don’t get it. Blogging is enough for me. Besides, like you, I feel I do enough on the computer.
[Reply]
I never had myspace or facebook. I have a blog I never update and I do have twitter account but, I guess I don’t really ‘get’ it. I occasionally write something but, it always sounds dumb. shrug
Yesterday I was contemplating just deleting the whole thing and being done with it.

I have a twitter account and I follow you, but I am not on it very often, either. I seem to tweet in spurts. I LOVE Facebook, though. I have to discipline myself to stay off facebook:)
[Reply]
No Twitter for me. I just don’t have the time. I have facebook, but I barely remember to do that. lol! I don’t need something else to try to keep up with. ;)

Another twitterless (and facebookless) reader here! My reasons are nearly the same as yours – I already spend too much time on the computer and want to keep real time with my family as a priority. Don’t want my girls growing up and only ever remembering mommy sitting at a desk tuned in to a computer.
[Reply]
Twitterless and Facebookless too! I love my email – especially for sending my parents pictures and cute things the twins do and say. I also enjoy the few selective blogs I follow and the few Yahoo Groups I participate in.
[Reply]
I actually asked the question “Do You Twitter?” after my husband read an article that it’s a fad.
I also don’t have the time for Twitter. Finding time to blog is hard with my very demanding work schedule.
Great tip!
It’s my blog’s anniversary!
It’s been 4 years now.

I come and go with Twitter…some days I do a lot and then I go days without doing anything. I just like to Twitter work related things so that narrows the list for me somewhat LOL
[Reply]
I am also twitterless! I’m struggling to on learning to blog correctly right now. I do have a personal facebook and myspace and I can’t keep up with that now that I am blogging. Maybe one day but right now Twitter is not for me. By the comments above I would say you are not alone!

I don’t twitter, I don’t facebook, and I have an emergencies only cell phone. I’m okay with it, though. I can barely fit in the things that are important to me now. When we let all of this technology into our lives, we’ve got to make room for it somewhere. When there’s no room, we just can’t let it in.
[Reply]
I do not Twitter either. I feel like too much time spent on things like that sucks away from our “real life” and takes away time, energy and emotions from our families and God’s work for our lives. Don’t get me wrong they can be a nice break once in a while and a source of information but its a slippery slope.

I have a Twitter account. I never log on and I never Tweet. It seems like a very big time killer. And besides – who really cares if I’m in the line at Wal-Mart checking out my groceries? That’s right – no one!
[Reply]
I have Twitter. I go through phases of tweeting and not tweeting! lol I found a neat add on for Mozilla Firefox called yoono that actually somehow combines all my chat programs and Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, etc. So I type 1 yes ONE update and it broadcasts to all my chosen applications!! Cool, huh!? It just sits on my sidebar and I can get other peoples tweets & updates without having to go check, it comes to me. (I have it set up to get a little notification box pop up when I get a new message.)
OK: I don’t work for or get any compensation of any type from mozilla, I’m just excited about that add on that I found! :)
Anyway, if you don’t feel like tweeting, it’s ok. … Of course it might say something in that little agreement box you have to check for your account that you must tweet every day or you will be sent to the blue moon! he he he

I don’t understand Twitter. I set up an account because someone sent me an e-mail, but that is as far as it went lol
[Reply]
I’ve been Twittering lately, but I’m still not sure about it. It definitely distracts me from work during the day. But…it IS kinda fun, too…
I love the look and theme of your blog, by the way!
[Reply]
I really liked your post which is why I posted about it on my last post.
[Reply]
i think i only use twitter when my blog updates and the link posts. lol iuno…i kinda find twitter useless.
[Reply]
I see twitter, I want my blog to grow but with a two year old, a 9 month old, and a million other responsibilities…I hardly have enough time as it is to blog.
Maybe someday I will be happily tweeting away but I was thrilled to read this post and know that I am not the only one not on there!!!!!
[Reply]
Still trying to figure Twitter out. Actually it’s a bit overwhelming. I joined to help my blog, but not really sure it will help? I find my blog suffers when I spend too much time in other online networks.
