So, what is Palm shortening?  Read what Tropical Traditions says about it:

Palm shortening is derived from palm oil (read about Virgin Palm Oil here). In its natural state, palm oil is a mixture of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, with most of the unsaturated fat being monounsaturated fat. Palm shortening is palm oil that has some of its unsaturated fats removed, giving it a very firm texture, and high melting point. The melting point of our Organic Palm Shortening is 97 degrees F., making it very shelf stable. It is NOT hydrogenised, and contains NO trans fats! It is great for deep-fat frying and baking, and is not prone to rancidity.

I use Palm shortening to fry my Chicken Nuggets and French Fries, Salmon PattiesOnion Rings, Whole Wheat Donuts…any food that requires frying.  Oh, and of course for a pie crust!  Palm Shortening has no flavor, so it doesn’t not alter the taste of the food.  Plus, it’s inexpensive.  A big bucket of Palm Shortening will last me quite a while!  I love that it is such a wonderful, healthy alternative to crisco!!  Hurray, we can use shortening again!

  47. I have never plam oil before, but I have seen it in things. My son has allergys to some thing but his doctor told me to use coconut or olive oil on his skin to help with his hives and it has worked. I have cooked with the coconut oil also and like the lite taste. I just bought the coconut cream to try, and would like to add plam oil to my shopping list.
