Thought You Might Like to Know…

By Laura · Aug,14 2008

This is not quite a random post because unlike my usual random posts, this one has a bit of a theme.  I just thought I’d catch you up on a few things going on at our house right now.

First…

All summer I have felt myself getting more and more run down and we knew we needed to cut some things out of my schedule.  I haven’t been keeping up very well on taking care of the house and kids and everything else I’ve been trying to do.  And, my asthma has been incredibly horrible this summer to top it off.  Not breathing is not fun.  So we made a couple hard decisions.  First, we decided that I will no longer do regular babysitting for others (such a hard decision because we really love those kids and their families).  And, we decided that I won’t bake for the farmer’s market anymore.  We’ll just take the shaved ice machine each week without the other goodies.   Just cutting out those two extra little things has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.

Second…

You know we live in an old house right?  I don’t know about other old houses…but this old house has some crazy plumbing issues.  We’ve already called the plumber once this summer to fix my silly kitchen sink that won’t drain.  And now it won’t drain again.  We decided that before we pay another plumber to come “not fix” it again, we’d try a few things on our own.  But so far nothing has been working.  So right now we’re washing our dishes in our downstairs bathtub.  And I don’t care…because I know our problems could be so much worse than washing dishes in a bathtub.   You know?

Third…

There will be no pictures of me washing dishes in our bathtub, just in case you were hoping to scroll down and see some.  I do draw the line at some things.  ;)

Fourth…

We had a new nephew born on Tuesday!!!!!!  We’re all so excited about this, and as soon as I get my hands (or screen) on some pictures, I’ll be sharing more about this sweet new one!

Fifth…

On top of his regular job, Matt is an assistant soccer coach for our local college women’s team.  Soccer season begins Monday.

Sixth…

I really hope we get the sink fixed before Monday.

:)

  1. You read my mind! I was wondering if you would have pictures. I dont blame you at drawing that line though. I have lived in an older house and all the plumbing issues are NO fun. i really hope you get back in your kitchen soon. :) And glad to hear the shoulders are lighter. I dont see how you did all that in the first place! its never easy to revamp the schedule but its necessary at times. (I was secretly afarid you were gonna say you were givig up blogging. I would have cried. Honestly. :)

I can totally sympathize with the asthma. I have also had a bad year. I have not had to take medicine daily for a long time, this summer I have had too. Not breathing is not fun. :) Stress does seem to make mine worse, so I hope that cutting back your schedule helps you.

I’ve been meaning to e-mail you! I have two things to tell you that will be blog posts if I ever get a blog – one is smoothie related and the other is kitchen sink related, although you may have tried it and it may not help anyway. But. This should give me proper motivation!

I was so afraid you were going to say that you were giving up the blog. I am glad it is still on your schedule. I really enjoy reading here. I am especially enjoying the Getting Real With Food series. I am glad you have lightened your load, and hope it will help.

Okay see right there I knew there was a reason I liked you. You knew you had too much on your plate and you did something about it. Good for you. Not easy decisions to make I’m sure but so important for your health and the sanity of your home.

    Very cool!

PS: I’ll say a little prayer about your kitchen sink.

Good luck with the sink, I know that is really crummy to go without a sink. It is hard enough to wash the dishes right in the kitchen, I can’t imagine having to haul them to the bathroom.

And good for you, cutting back. I just stopped watching some of my favorite kids. Even though I’ll miss them terribly, I’ll be able to focus more of my attention on my family and doing my househould chores!

You had me on the edge of my seat on that first one! I thought you were going to tell us that you were ‘in the family way’! ;-)

May the Lord supply a solution to that sink!

My DH thinks I’m just looney but…I know U won’t! :-) …But a couple of years ago, our pipes started making this dreadful noise…and to be honest…every now and then they try it again but never like before. But -me being a mom and familiar with all those good fairy tales…I said, “Lord, if elves can help the shoemaker by fixing shoes, can you send a few angels down to set these pipes right?” Well, as stated, they stopped that…and they rarely act up and when they do, it’s never like it was. (You could hear it outside before!)

May the Lord send His workers to your home!
