The Big Book of Church Humor – A Giveaway!
ByWe go to church to worship our loving Father. We go to church to fellowship with our local Christian family. We go to church to minister to those around us. We go to church to be fed spiritually.
But you know that funny bloopers and blunders happen at church all the time, right?
Hey we’re all human. Church bulletins have typos. Preachers and teachers mix their words up sometimes. Kids scream out embarrassing things in the middle of a prayer. (Oh, but it’s so much funnier when it’s someone else’s kid…)
My uncle (yes, my very own uncle!!!) worked for several years compiling an entire book filled with all kinds of humorous things that have happened in churches all over America and beyond. It’s amazing what true stories started pouring in when he asked people to send him their funny memories of bloopers and blunders that occurred during a church service! Wow did people have some doozies!

The Big Book of Church Humor, by Ken Alley is a great, fun read. The first section is full of real life examples of funny church happenings sent or emailed to Dr. Alley (um, Uncle Kenny) by people all over the place. The second section of the book is a collection of fictional anecdotes from past church humor books (some of them 100 years old!).
Want to see some examples of some of the true stories?! Here are a few church bulletin typos:
“Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community.” (Hey, those in the community are probably sick of you too.)
“Spend one Sunday each week at your nearest church.” (What a fantastic idea.)
“Thank you Steve, who once again has worked hard to clean the pastor off the basement floor.” (Huh?)
“There will be waxers and strippers available for the Men’s Club when they do the fellowhip hall floor.” (Oh dear…)
“Moving the church lawn this week will be Allen _____ and Roland ____.” (Wow, good luck with that.)
“Musician Wanted: Must be able to play piano in Spanish for two services.” (Now that I’d like to see! Uh, hear.)
Okay, that gives you a little taste of what fills this book. I’m not much of a “laugh out loud” kind of girl, but parts of this book had me busting right out loud, which made my kids come running to say, “What’d you read this time?! Read it to us!”
You can purchase The Big Book of Church Humor (this book makes a GREAT gift!) at iUniverse.com or by calling 1-877-823-9235. You can also ask for it at your local bookstores.

Mom and I would get a lot of laughs from this one, but it still won’t top the TRUE scream of anguish at a (thankfully step) cousin’s funeral as they lowered the deceased into the ground: You can’t put ther there, that’s MY place.

My church bulletin once listed that the choice for Wednesday night supper was either Roast Beef or Baked Children. I wonder which one got more takers? :-)
