Something About Me

By Laura · Feb,20 2009

Several weeks ago…I received this list of questions in my email from my (fabulous, awesome, sweet, inspirational, encouraging) cousin Jayme.  You know…the kind of email questions that you write your answers in and send it to your friends and then they take your answers out and write in their own?  It was SO much fun to read her answers and I socked it away so that I could share my own answers with you sometime.

The time has come.

Here we go…

1. What is your occupation right now?  Wife.. Mama…Homemaker…Writer

2. What color are your socks right now? Dark blue. It’s one of those rare days when my socks actually coordinate with my sweater.  We should celebrate.

3. What are you listening to right now?  Silence.  I’m writing this in the morning before anyone is awake.  Ahhhhhh.

4. What was the last thing that you ate?  Um, I was making heart shaped brownies last night for our Valentine party today (it was rescheduled for the 20th because of snow last week!)…and I snuck some of the scraps around the hearts.  It was for the purpose of quality control of course.

5. Can you drive a stick shift?   Okay…we’ve already been through this one…..don’t make me break out in hives again!

6. Last person you spoke to on the phone?  My friend Susan.  She was calling to tell me that a friend of ours was in the hospital.  Ick.

7. Do you like the person who sent this to you?   Are you kidding?  She’s one of my most favorite people in the whole world!

8. How old are you today? 35…and a half.

9. What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?  <cough>  Well, in the event that I actually watch a sport on TV…I suppose it would be soccer….because Matt enjoys it and we all get into the game with him (after he tells us who to cheer for).  We only get to watch soccer about once every four years if we’re at someone’s house with cable.

10. What is your favorite drink?   Oooh, every once in a while I’ll treat myself to a bottle of mineral water mixed with juice of some sort.  I LOVE the fizzy sweetness.

11. Have you ever dyed your hair?   No, never.  But I was seriously considering it after our third son was born and my hair suddenly went from blond to brown.  Everyone kept saying, “Ooooh, your hair is so dark…”  But they didn’t follow it up with “…and it’s still so pretty” so I was getting paranoid.  Seriously.

12. Favorite food?  Either lasagna or chicken fried steak…and for some weird reason I’ve been totally into sloppy joes recently.  Yeah, I like beef.

13. What is the last movie you watched?  Fireproof

14. Favorite day of the year?  Any day that we actually have very little to do and can play together all six of us and relax.  I’d say that happens about once a year.

15. How do you vent anger?   Gulp.  Well…sometimes I scream it out to God…inside my head..usually saying the same things over and over because I never know what else to say.  Once I was so angry and hurt that I could hardly eat for three weeks.  And, bless my husband’s heart…he usually gets an earful during the times I’m angry at someone or something….and he just lets me vent.

16. What was your favorite toy as a child?  All my baby dolls.  Absolutely.

17. What is your favorite season? Since it’s winter at the time I’m writing this…I’ll say spring.  If it was summer right now…I’d probably say fall.  I’ve never been able to pick which of the two is my favorite.

18. Cherries or Blueberries?  Blueberries

19. Do you want your friends to e-mail you back?  Yes, except I’m not emailing this, I’m blogging it.

20. Who is the most likely to respond?  Well…since we’re talking about comments here and not email replies…I’d have to say…all of you of course.  (Now you have to leave a comment…all of you.)

21. Who is least likely to respond?   Well, I don’t know…but be sure to feel guilty if it’s YOU.  :)

22. Living arrangements?  We own a great big huge old (over one hundred years old) house that is great and full of issues at the same time.

23. When was the last time you cried?   Last week when I was reading some Karen Kingsbury books.  I forget that those characters aren’t real people.

24. What is on the floor of your closet?  My shoes and Matt’s work clothes.  (Because my closet is bigger than his closet…and his work clothes are not worthy of being hung up at the end of the day.)

25. Who is the friend you have had the longest that you are sending to?  Well…let’s see…who of my long time friends reads this blog?  Michele?  (She’s also my SIL, but we were friends long before we became sisters!)  Wait…I know my cousin Kathy reads my blog, and she and I have known each other forever.  Actually…I just found out that my former neighbor reads this…and she knew me before I was born.  Hi Karen!  And Loretta…you knew me before I was born.  Anyone else?!

26. What did you do last night?  Took dinner to two families…one that just had a baby and one who has a sister dying of cancer.  Then, I came home and fed my own family and then we played hide and seek with all six of us before bed.  I learned that I’m a little bit claustrophobic and also that my knees can’t handle staying bent in one place for long periods of time anymore.

27. What are you most afraid of?  Losing Matt or one of my kids.

28. Plain, cheese, or spicy hamburger?   Cheese…but REAL cheese…like a thick hunk of cheddar that melts onto the burger while it’s still cooking.

29. Favorite dog breed?  The kind that is not in my house or anywhere near me, really.

30. Favorite day of the week?  Friday

31. How many states have you lived in?  Three:  Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska

32. Diamonds or pearls?  Diamonds…or should I say diamond (singular).  I have one and it’s on my wedding ring and that’s all I ever want or need.  I’d be afraid of losing any expensive jewelry.  And also…I don’t often accessorize (unless you count the flour that is often in my hair and on my clothes).

33. What is your favorite flower?   Whole wheat.  Oh I’m sorry, you said flower not flour?  Yellow daisies, I think.

34. What is your shoe size?   Either an 8 or 8 1/2…depending on the shoe.  I have weird feet.  It’s my Nana’s fault.

35. Favorite store?   Old Navy, when there’s an enormous clearance sale.

35. Coffee or hot chocolate?  Definitely hot chocolate, specifically this recipe.  I’ve never been able to learn to like coffee…but I LOVE the way it smells.  I have a little coffeemaker that my mom always used when she came to visit.  Now, I love it when someone else comes over and I can make coffee for them and smell it brewing.  It reminds me of mom and it just smells SO GOOD.  (Why doesn’t it taste like it smells?!)

Now it’s your turn!!  Pick a question or three and leave a comment telling us your answers!  I LOVE learning more about you too, ya know!

And/or…if you have more questions you’d like me to put together and answer in another post…feel free to write that in the comments too!

    11. Yes. When I was 20 and moving away to college for the first time, I dyed my hair brown to make myself look smart. I think it worked. I later lightened it, then let that grow out. Somehow it is now darker than any other female in my family, and I cannot explain that since I was the only blonde growing up.

    17. Fall. We have a very small lot, and 4 very large trees. That means tons of leaves. Its slightly frustrating when you rake and the next day you can’t tell, but I love fall nonetheless. Fall just smells good.

    29. Our mutt is my favorite dog! We seem to be mutt people (probably because our heritage is so mixed up too), they just seem to be the best for our family!

    35. Since I have a house full of boys Old Navy suits us too!

Thanks for sharing with all of us!

    32. pearls definately. My mother was given a strand of real pearls in the early 1950′s from Japan. My uncle was visiting in Japan and bought her the lovely necklance. There is nothing quite like it. It came in a beatiful box with Japaneese silk. My mom died before I knew her and the box and pearls were given to me at age 16. A couple of years ago I decided it was time to pass it on before I died so now my daughter has them.

    35. Chocolate or coffeee? Are you kidding? Coffee smells delightful but chocolate is yummy. It is part of the first four food groups!

    2. Right now I have on Columbia socks that are kind of purple. I LOVE pretty socks and rarely wear white ones. As long as they make me smile who cares if they match my outfit! PS: before I had four kiddos I NEVER would have dreamed of not coordinating my socks with my outfit!

    32. Diamonds or pearls? Pearls! I inherited my grandmother’s pearls a few years ago and whenever I wear them I think of the loving mothers who wore them before me… Although I do have a dilema in that I have three girls and only two valuable pieces of jewelry so I think my husband should make it fair and buy me something AWESOME for our ten year anniversary soon… LOL!

Hi, Laura–it’s me, your SIL, lurking about again! Okay, I have never dyed my hair (except in 3rd grade for my HUGE part in “The King & I”) but think I may have found a gray hair…..I told Kevin I may consider it if I start going gray now. Surely it was a leftover one from the natural summer bleaching, right?!

The coffee thing is an easy fix, lots of raw cream and agave (or your own sugar substitute that’s all natural).

I used hate the taste and love the smell, then I had to stay awake at work years ago and started drinking coffee, sweet!

It enhances the flavor and then tastes like it smells. Are you sure you want to get hooked? Now I’m addicted, it’s my only real vice (well besides really crunchy potato chips)
