I use soap nuts from NaturOli for my cloth diapers! I’m pleased with the results (economical, too!). It get the diapers clean, although it doesn’t remove all stains (but of course, even standard detergent doesn’t get all the baby poo stains off!) Our water is very hard, so I soak my soapnuts in hot water for a few minutes prior to use, this seems to help them perform better. (I’m planning on using them for all of our clothes, and soon as I use up our big box of regular detergent.)

Thanks for this “healthy deals” post! It’s always nice to know about good deals. :)

I have used soap nuts. I tried them straight in the wash, and they didn’t seem to do much (the instructions that came with them said nothing about needing hot water). I then switched to making liquid from them. After using 4 or 5 batches of it, I got tired of my clothes always smelling sour. I don’t know if I wasn’t using enough of the liquid, or what. I still have a lot of them, and am not sure what to do with them. I didn’t care for the liquid as a household cleaner, either – mainly because of the scent.

I read so many great things about soap nuts, and I wanted so badly to love them, but when I tried them, they just didn’t work. They may be less expensive than some laundry detergents, but if they aren’t getting my clothes clean then that’s not value.

My verdict on soapnuts: Not worth the hype. I would not recommend them.
