I am so glad you posted this Laura because it gave me the opportunity to tell you of something wonderful that happened to me with Vita-Cost. I am very happy to report that they called me back while I was boarding a plane to sunny Arizona. I shared my concerns about the maple syrup saga and then I was asked one question. What would it take to make it right in my eyes? The manager agreed and we were both quite happy with our agreement. I love it when a company makes it right when there is a problem. I will be glad to use the company again. Thanks so much Laura. I wanted you and your readers to know my positive outcome since I was so vocal in my unhappiness. Thank you Vita-Cost for making it right.

Laura, have you ever tried the Vitacost brand Extra virgin coconut oil? I have bought it twice now and thought it was great. It’s also really reasonable! $6.99 for 16 oz. and $20.09 for 54 oz.

I’d love to know about this too. Seems like a great price! Also, I assume this is the kind that still tastes like coconut? Do you usually keep both versions on hand?

I haven’t yet tried the Vitacost brand, but it sounds like it’s great quality. I do keep both the virgin and the expeller pressed on hand at all times so that I can use them for different purposes. I love the virgin for baked goods, but the expeller pressed for frying or for foods I don’t want a coconut flavor.

I decided to order the refined coconut oil from Vitacost http://www.vitacost.com/Spectrum-Refined-Organic-Coconut-Oil but then went shopping today and saw this exact same jar at my Walmart for cheaper (it was $5.98 at Walmart). I know you’ve said you didn’t find a good quality of oil at your walmart. So, now I’m wondering if this is one you’ve tried? Is there something specific I should look for indicating a good quality of oil?

he Spectrum coconut oil is a good choice. The only brand I’d found at my Walmart had been a weird brand that didn’t seem to be very high quality. I’ll have to look again and see if my wmart now carries other options!

I clicked on the link you have for the free one year membership to Beyond Organic, but it took me to a link where I had to buy the package you received (for $50) in order to get the “free” membership.

Since I don’t want the $50 package as it contains products we don’t need and/or use I declined.

I generally don’t shop at businesses that charge me a fee to shop there (nope—no Costco membership).
