Question #35

By Laura · Jun,05 2009

So…are you a blogger too?  Fun isn’t it?

You all know what my blog is about (healthy recipes…menu plans…homemaking tips…parenting stuff…the crazy life of living with bunches of boys…).

Now I’d like you to tell us what your blog is all about.  Chances are I’ve been to your blog before, especially if you’ve ever linked up with Gratituesday or left a comment.  But just in case, leave a comment telling us all a bit about you and your blog.  I’m interested to know the focus of your blog and about why you decided to start a blog!

Don’t have a blog?  Well then, just leave a comment telling us a bit about you!  And maybe tell us what blogs you like to read!

I’m just getting started blogging. So far, it’s about some freezer cooking, bargain hunting, and a touch of gardening. I intend to do more posting on making gifts (I’ve already done a bit). And I do a weekly link roundup of all the interesting things I’ve found online – I love it when other blogs do this so I don’t feel like I have to read the whole internet myself. :>)

My blog is about ways to save money and give generously. I love to share the deals I find with my readers, and I love to share the fruits of my bargain-hunting with people who are in need.

I started blogging as an outlet for my deal-seeking. My husband is great about listening, bit I know that he’s not 100% into the nitty-gritty of how I got the deodorant free. I found that people reading my blog site were fascinated with the details, as they were trying to mimic the deals.

I love the idea of all of us putting our heads together and helping each other save money!

  3. My main blog (Boys Rule My Life) is about just that… the boys that rule my life. :) I have three ages 6, 3, and 2. I started my blog as a way to keep family and friends posted about what’s going on in our lives.

Since then, our youngest son was diagnosed with life threatening food allergies and it has been a good outlet for me to meet other allergy moms. Through researching food allergies I came to learn more about whole foods and better nutrition.

I now also keep a food allergy recipe blog, a blog that chronicles my journey in learning how to garden, and I just started up a homeschooling blog that will *mostly* be a formal record of our studies (we’re starting our first year of HS in the fall).

So, yeah, I like to blog. Thanks for asking. :)

my blog is totally a electronic scrapbook of our family craziness – it’s usually about the kids and what they’re up to… but I often use it as my adult communication outlet… you know, it helps me think of words that may not be in a preschoolers vocabulary so that I don’t – at some point – lose them… I have to sit blankly at the screen for several minutes at times in order to think of those words, but they eventually come back. So I guess the blog is just to help me retain those words needed for adult conversations and to document all that I can concerning these fun years as a young family.

Blogging started for me about 18 months ago when my then 3 y.o son was driving me NUTS. He is very active and intense. Tonight I had dinner with friends and told them how very different he is now at 4.5 – I like him now.

In the beginning I recorded lots of Montessori and preschool activities on the blog. Now the blog is a hodge-podge of things in our lives. One of which is real food, which could be a mellowing factor in his life.

My blog started when I was just beginning life as an ER nurse and wanted somewhere to vent my thoughts when I was home and my body still wanted to be working at 3am. :)

Then I got pregnant and used it to blog about that, my crazy ER patients, and eventually, my son’s birth. It also allows me an outlet to vent my “religious frustrations” in a calm manner! I love using it to meet new people and as a social networking tool since I’m not a SAHM.

Love your blog! Thanks for being interested in us!

Mine started to keep distant family and friends in touch.
We had four kids in less than 5 years, so our house is busy and crazy! =)
I am a photographer, so I love to post pictures up too.
My health has become a big concern these past few years, so sometimes it is about how I am starting over on what real food is and how I am doing.
We started homeschooling last fall, so that has been an adventure too!
    Really, it’s about everything!
    Feel free to come visit!
    Or my business blog: threetreephotography.blogspot.com

I should have considered a theme when I started blogging. I just thought it would be fun to keep our family connected as two children have moved away from home and happen to be very far away! (from IL to CO and CA)
I then found myself writing about cooking things for my homeschool friends. (They wanted to know how to make homemade tomato sauce.)
My daughter and I sometimes work on a sewing project so those get included too. It turned into a mix of things but I’ve enjoyed them all. My next project will include writing about my first quilt-a-long.
Thank you for your wonderful and informative blog!

Mine is just a ‘keeping the far-flung family members up to date with us’ type of blog. I never realised how big the blogosphere was! It’s such fun visiting other blogs and experiencing life in America through them.

I started my blog, actually, to do movie reviews! I was working with a publicity company that arranged freebie tickets and special press passes for bloggers… so I started a blog. At the time, I was more heavily involved in helping fellow writers -esp. screenwriters – with copy editing and continuity.

But now it is about things that interest me, generally. I recently moved to my own URL (less than a month ago) and sat down and made a loose schedule, so I could fit it all in. Frugal living, my Food Stamp Challenge (feeding my family for $2 per person per day), politics, education, and family life.

My blog started out as a way to record the lives of our children. We have four children ages 6, 5, 2, and 8 months. At first it was mostly about what the kids were doing or saying, but my blog has evolved into more of a place for me to share my heart and feelings.
I love natural cooking, attachment parenting, and homeschooling. I am also first and foremost a daughter of the King and MANY, MANY of my posts are now about what God is doing in my life. Thus the title of my blog “Reaching Higher”. I am striving to continue to be more like Christ and to encourage my fellow sisters to as well. As we serve our families as the Word of God instructs.

My blog is mostly about homemaking, food, Navy life and whatever interesting things may happen in my life.

I started blogging mostly to keep family up-to-date since we live 1000s of miles from any relatives. But also because I was getting bored (without a job and no kids yet) … Now I follow many blogs and sometimes forget to post on my own!

  14. Emily says:

My blog title pretty much says it all- loving the simple things. I started it as a way to try and stay focused on what really matters in life. I’m a sophomore in college in Oregon. As anyone who has gone to college knows (and even people who haven’t…) its easy to lose track while here. I came from a farming family background. So really, its a collection of stories, musings, photos, and thoughts. I started it as something just for myself. This was back in February last year when life as I’d known it was changing a lot.

Since then, I’ve found that other people tend to find my stories amusing/interesting also, so I keep posting. But even if no one read, I would post. I love it. Writing is just something I have to do. And reading! I love the snapshots of different lives blogs provide. I’m not a homemaker with four boys- but I still feel like its not a different world, since its one I can read about. =)

    Thank you!

  15. Blogging for me is a form of therapy. and worship. and art. I strive to capture the beauty in the mundane, to set down in words and pictures the blessings that fill my cup. As someone who has struggled with depression I have found that focusing on what is pure, lovely, true, right and praiseworthy is the highest form of hope and happiness and in sharing my happiness I hope to inspire others to pursue those qualities as well.

Our blog has many purposes.. First and foremost it was created to help keep grandparents in touch with grandchildren. This has worked wonderfully well for us.

However, our blog is also a great way for us to journal our homeschooling journal, the funny mishaps of being the only women/girl/female in a house full of boys. The struggles, joys, and wonders of living in another country. It’s also a place for us to post recipes that we often create ourselves that our 100% without any form of white or brown sugar.

You see my youngest son and I have an unusual “problem” (which is truly a blessing to be honest). We can in no way consume any form of refined sugar. Not even in raw format. We become unbearable people to live, filled with rage and other horrifying uncontrollable emotions and attitudes. So this led to much learning and studying of 100% natural sweeteners. It was difficult when we first began the journey (over a year ago now) because there were very few recipes available for a person. However, with time and patience we have quite the stash going and we love sharing them on our blog!

  17. I run 2 blogs actually. How I find the time I have no idea! But http://www.RaisingPeanuts.com is all about kids really. And my life as I raise an almost 3yo boy and brand new 8wk old girl. i TALK ABOUT EATING HEALTHY/real foods (sorry-1 hand typing due to nursing the baby and hit the caps!)Other topics that hit the blog: homemaking, natural cleaning, and just everything about the life of me.

http://www.NaturallyKnockedUp.com is all about increasing the odds of conception through natural living and nourishing foods. I have pcos AND 2 kids. The Lord’s blessing for sure and my life is only by his design, but I also feel that He’s lead me into healthy/traditional diets to help w/ my fertility and then to share with others.

The main reason we started our blog was to provide a medium to update friends/family about the happenings around our home w/ many littles & to share pics. I enjoy sharing random stuff here & there & have begun to do a weekly post for a favorite recipe (linked to your “Mom is Great Cake” once) & post about our cloth diaper journey. I am hoping to begin posts about what we are learning about nutrition, as well as educational info (we home educate).

My blog also began as a way to help family keep in touch with the goings-on of the family. But I quickly moved beyond the impartiality of daily activities to a more personal journal. I have struggled for years to keep a consistent personal handwritten journal, a record of who I am for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. In blogging online, I found I was inspired to write regularly. I blog about anything that is touching my heart – political, social, educational, musical, spiritual, home, family. As a new mom, I’m finding the journey so enlightening, trying to figure out which paths I want to lead my children down.

I used to balk at revealing personal feelings, but then I realized that those who faithfully read are likely good friends and family, and I warmed up to the idea that I wanted to be more transparent and open with those I love. Each year I organize and print all the entries and bind them into a little book.

I am finding my blog to be a great place to record my memories of the days that are passing by so quickly for our family. I alsoo love the fact that I am meeting other like-minded Christian women and learning from them and, I hope at some level, I am able to encourage them.

  25. When I have the time, I love to blog! My blog started out as a way to update family and friends when we were living in Italy. That has been nearly two years ago and now that we are back in the States, I still enjoy keeping people in touch and using my blog as a way to encourage those who need encouragement in the Lord. I chose the name Travelin Pilgrim because that just seems to sum up who I am. We don’t stay in one place very long and I am constantly reminding myself that this isn’t my home anyway… my real home is up in Heaven … where I’ll live eternally. Can’t imagine living someplace eternally, but won’t that be nice! I also enjoy blogging about the things that interest me and that relate to our family… cooking and cleaning naturally, organizing, gardening, walking with the Lord … and anything else that happens to be happening in a family of six! I love reading this blog and especially enjoy your style of humor! Keep it up!

Little pieces here and there of different things. Healthy recipes, stories about my children, and random thoughts the Lord has shared with me. My husband and I have family spread out all over the States and so I felt is was a good way for everyone to stay tuned in. Plus, it’s fun!

My blog, Aspiring to Simplicity, is basically about our efforts in that direction. Lots of family “happenings” – life with 3 girls (and one unknown)! – our (mis)adventures in raising our own food (chickens, turkeys, pigs once, gardening), homeschooling, and lots and lots of deep thoughts and questions. As much as I’d love to be able to write wonderful ‘how to’ type posts, I just feel SO unworthy to do so, and am always sure that someone somewhere has already written it WAY better than I could. Plus, there is the time issue… :)

My blog is called, “outside the box!” and it’s all about being creative in home and ministry. I share crafts and sewing projects that I do, recipes, devotionals, and pictures/ideas for church and teen ministries. (My husband is a youth pastor.) As I found myself going from working full-time to part-time, I struggled with how I could fill my time as a homemaker (without children). I googled “stay at home wife” and it led me to reading lots of blogs! The Lord used that in my life to encourage me in home making and now I love it! My blog came as a desire to share with others the joy of homemaking and ministry. I was also getting away from a social networking site for some personal reasons that were negative. Blogging has allowed me to use my time for good and everything about it (so far) has been positive.

I love your blog and am so glad God has blessed you with the gift of blogging. You do it so well!

  33. We started our blog about six months after we got married when we were about to take an epic, memorable, and expensive trip to Russia and Ukraine, our former AIM mission fields, as husband and wife. We wanted to contact all of our friends and family at once, share pictures and stories, and record daily events so that we didn’t forget them. It really worked.

Since then, our “shared” blog has definitely become more domestic! While it still contains a focus of being a colorful newsletter for those who know us with pictures and stories of our life, it also contains occasional recipes, book reviews, and information I am learning about natural living. I have offered to my husband to take these types of things elsewhere and start a new blog with them, but he says he’d almost rather I didn’t. I wish he would share more. I love the way he writes and reading about how he sees the world, but it’s definitely more my blog than his. Now, of course, it’s flooded with lots of baby pictures!

I can’t believe how blessed I have been through other people’s blogs! Just the sheer number of SAHM blogs is encouraging; Mothers aren’t cut off from the world the way my mom was in the 80′s. But I love how I get to stand at the side of other women as they cook, clean, raise their children, and serve their husbands and learn from them! What a huge blessing! I have to be careful, or I could be online all day living vicariously through other’s blogs, but I love learning from other Christian women!

I started my blog in order to keep in contact with my sister. She has a blog too and I can peep into her world whenever I want (without fear of time changes or crying babies)

I really started to enjoy blogging and I admit use it as an outlet.

Now, I want to incorporate our faith into the blog and am constantly looking for ideas to use with my kids to help them grow up godly.

I love recipe blogs and just everything associated with the home.

  36. Kelly says:

I’ve been blogging for several years, and my blog has definitely undergone some changes as me and my life have undergone changes. When I started my blog, I had one small baby and a lot of time to knit. My blog focused mostly on knitting (hence the name, KeowdieKnits).

Now I have two wonderful boys who keep me very busy, a new job that gives me lots of time off during the summer, and a new focus to the blog.

Since that first blog, I have picked up new activities (like spinning & dyeing my own yarn, cooking from scratch and gardening) and some new attitudes (like saturating our family life with our faith and raising our children with our traditional, Christian values). I am learning so much from all the SAHM blogs I’m reading lately ~ all these women are amazing and I really do feel blessed to have found them!

So even though the title makes it sound like my blog is just about knitting, it’s really much more than that. There’s still some knitting content, but it’s intermingled with stories & photos of my family and our lives.

I talk about homeschooling recently, dealing with active little boys, and about issues that women often worry about. I don’t do recipes, but I enjoy reading them. I LOVE to garden. 39. I started my “Shine Like Stars” blog originally to be a 2 or 3 times a week devotional thought. It has turned in to a daily devotional thought, but I am very thankful for it! It helps me see God in everyday things even more, because my mind is always thinking about how life’s situations relate to God’s Word each and every day. It is also a great way to keep record of events in the lives of our four children – but still have them relate to a devotional thought, as well.

For the most part, my blog continues to be just that, with occasional ramblings from my thought bank. My husband has his own blog that is theologically focused as it is his field.
