Question #28

By Laura · Feb,13 2009

With so much Valentine talk going on this week…I totally have chocolate on the brain.

Okay…maybe I always have chocolate on the brain…and Valentine’s Day just gives me an excuse to talk about it.  I love the stuff.  In just about any form.  (Okay, but milk chocolate is my favorite.)  (Actually these brownies are my favorite favorite.)

I do try to make healthier versions of chocolate treats to take care of my cravings.  Still…I have to hold myself back (and sometimes I give in and eat too much of the rich ooey-gooey goodness).

What I want to know today is…

Do YOU love chocolate like I do?  What’s your favorite form of chocolate?  And if you aren’t a big fan of chocolate…what on earth makes you not like it?

P.S.  My brother is allergic to chocolate.  Isn’t that just so, so <sniff> sad?  :(

Oh so much <3 Endangered Species dark chocolate is my favorite. I haven’t had it in a long time, though!

I was never a chocolate lover until I discovered the joy of dark chocolate when I was pregnant with baby #3 – dark chocolate is good for you, ya know! And after much trial and error, I’ve found that only Lindt 70percent dark chocolate is worth the money and the calories.

Oh, and the recipe you linked to – AWESOME! I made it last week and the whole family loved it!

Freaky that I have just placed a batch of brownies in the oven as I am providing morning tea at Church on Sunday.

I LOVE chocolate. My favourite is Lindt however Cadbury (think this might only be in Australia) is a great second and somewhat cheaper.

Umm I don’t think I’ve ever had a choclate I didn’t like! Your poor brother! Be a good sister and have some chocolate for him!

  6. Lenetta says:

Yeah, I love it a little too much. My favorite – that I am ashamed to admit on this site – brownies from a box. I know! But they’re delicious.

  7. Jill says:

LOVE IT! I love Lindor balls, any flavor but the dark chocolate and the hazelnut flavors are my favorite.

Although, now that I say that I do have to admit that if I was faced with a bowl of potato chips and a bowl of chocolate, I’d take the potato chips every time. Of course, it is just chocolate, I can’t resist!

First of all–Hi Laura!!!! I love your site! And second–chocolate is one of my favorite things ever! I like it pretty much in any form–cake, brownies, cookies, etc. I prefer milk chocolate over dark. Some of the best chocolate I have ever had was from Norway. Mmmmm, this is making me hungry!

  9. titus says:

Its alright..it gives me a headache, is bitter after a while, and makes my tummy feel sick.

I do crave it sometimes, though…I would much rather fruit, nuts, or cheese.

Hubby on the other hand, is a chocolate nut. He is addicted.

I made your cookies (did you know they made 28 BIG cookies?!) and then, two days later, you chocolate brownies.

I do not know what I am going to do with him. ::shakes head::

  10. Emily Kay says:

yes, Yes, YES!!! I love chocolate any way you serve it up! My faves are dark chocolate covered strawberries and Reeses peanutbutter cups. I think my hubby may have dropped the ball this V-day and not bought me any chocolate…I will just have to go get myself some!:)

  11. Amanda says:

Do I like chocolate?? Yes!! In any form! Candy, brownies, chocolate milk. Mmmm… Honestly, I really have to apply some self control if we’ve got it in the house (which isn’t very often for that reason!). I’m pretty content with just the plain old hersey’s kisses. Yum.

  12. Erin says:

I love it! I have something chocolate every day. Some more than others and I can’t say that I have an absolute favorite. I will say that when I buy a bag of Peanut M&Ms, I scour the bag to find the ones that are missing the nut. They have a great flavor and don’t taste like just a plain milk chocolate M&M. Who knew a mistake they spend millions on to fix in the factory would make some one giddy?

  13. Tracy says:

I love chocolate anything almost! But not cheap chocolate, like the generic stuff. I can tell the difference. I like Dark chocolate, but recently discovered that it can be TOO dark. (83% is bitter). I’ve been known to keep instant chocolate pudding packets in the house for those moments when I’m craving, and there’s nothing else. Chocolate chips are also a good when I’m desperate!

  14. Janet says:

I LOOOOVE chocolate, too! My husband does, too, and he’s brought me over to the ‘dark’ side. We love Lindt dark chocolate, and recently discovered the joy of Lindt dark with chili powder. We make our own truffles at Christmas time, too! Yum!

I’m one of those rare birds that is not a big chocolate lover. I know, I’m strange! It’s not that I don’t like chocolate, because I do like a good brownie or CC cookie from time-to-time. It’s more that I prefer other types of sweets like fruit pies or vanilla flavored things better. What can I say? Pull my woman card — lol!

I really love Ina Garten’s (The Barefoot Contessa) Outrageous Brownies. They truly ARE outrageous! I only make them once a year because they are soooo oooey gooie wonderful and in my opinion the best way to eat them is warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YUM!

I love Chocolate so much. More than any edible thing ever. Then I had gallbladder surgery last year, and I can’t have chocolate anymore. It makes me so sick! It’s one of the saddest thing’s ever BUT I have lost a ton of weight and I can sneak a teeny tiny taste now and then without it killing me so I am grateful for those small blessings!

  22. Rebekah says:

Chocolate is the best. I love just about all chocolate, except maybe not the super cheap stuff like you would find in those $1 valentine hearts. See’s Chocolates are fabulous…..my in-laws have access to a discount See’s store in California and bring us a box or two whenever they visit. Hubby and I don’t share with the kids. In fact, our kids are oblivious to the fact that See’s exists. :)
I’m making a chocolate truffle cheesecake for some guests for tomorrow….you can check out the recipe on my blog here. http://rebekahsfamilyfoodandfun.blogspot.com/2008/05/chocolate-truffle-cheesecake.html
It’s one of my favorite things to eat EVER.

  23. I LOVE dark chocolate. I make pots de creme that are to die for, a gorgeous flourless chocolate cake with Chambord in it, molten chocolate cakes (we do heart shapes for Valentine’s day or our anniversary) and the best ever brownies known to humanity. Oh, and a triple chocolate cheesecake that has gotten me multiple marriage proposals, after I was already married.

  24. Andrea says:

I love choc. ooey goey brownies are my favorite. If I’m eating candy I usually like it with something like peanut m & m’s or Cadbury Fruit and nut bar, or p-e-a-n-u-t b-u-t-t-e-r (please read with the drama intended, you know, like drool rolling out of your mouth). Dove and Lindt are my all time favorite! Great, now I want chocolate. My Valentine treat every year for my family are chocolate covered fruit and pretzels, I did them and decorate ‘em almost as fast as they can eat ‘em.

  25. Yarie says:

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE any kind of chocolate, especially chocolate covered nuts and pretzels. I just recently tried Bliss Chocolate, and it sure is pure Bliss. I have no will power when it comes to chocolate I can never just stop at one piece.

Laura- I am a very blessed woman (though my mom says that I am not a true woman) because I do not like chocolate and I do not like salt. I don’t know how it happened but even in having babies I have NEVER craved or wanted any chocolate. BUT I love me some skittles or chewy sprees. :)

  27. Bitts says:

I’m another one who doesn’t love it. Brownies are good and CC cookies are ok too, but there are other sweet things I like MUCH better. Like Titus, I usually prefer something with fruit like pie or jelly thumbprints.

The reason I don’t love it is becuase I grew up in Hershey, PA and smelled it every blessed day for 22 years. The whole town smells like chocolate most of the time, except when the wind changes and blows the roasted peanut smell in from the Reese’s plant on the other side of town (LOVE)! You can tell which kind of candy they are making on a particular day based on the smell — bittersweet, milk chocolate, cocoa powder — they all smell different.

But no, there is no chocolate river.

And no, we do not get free chocolate in the mailbox every day.

But YES if you work there you do get all the free chocolate you can eat or carry home.

So yes, Halloween is a jackpot in Hershey.

But no, there are no public tours of the factory.

So yes, it is a little like Willy Wonka but with no Oompa Loompas. As far as I know.

    I don’t think I’ve met a chocolate in whatever form that I didn’t like!
I know a few people allergic to chocolate, too, and I’m not sure how they even survive! Or like my mom, who about 25 years ago felt like she was REALLY addicted to it, so she quit eating cold turkey and hasn’t tasted it since. There’s a strong woman for you! I just don’t know HOW she does it. We would even flaunt chocolate in her face. She’s never given in. Love that about her!

I love chocolate. I don’t like regular candy bar chocolate though – I can taste the junky ingredients. Endangered Species is a favorite as is Lake Champlain Chocolate – the organic milk chocolate, yummmmm. A truffle every now and then is just divine, but only every now and then because they are so rich. It has taken many years, but I can now eat one square of chocolate – very slowly – thoroughly enjoy it and not crave any more. This is important for me because I used to look down and be amazed that somehow the entire chocolate bar had been eaten. Moderation, right!
