I realize these blogs above are quite old, but I am so pleased that you have addressed the issue of fats. In 1988, my husband had emergency heart bypass at age 44. At that time the American Heart Association was pushing the "no fats" stuff. My husband stayed on the diet for nine years. He exersized vigorisly every day & walked. In nine years his cholesterol dropped only 7 points. Also, he was on the verge of diabetes. He told his doctor he would no longer stay on that "road-to-destruction diet". His doctor agreed with him. The AHA diet has led many people into diabetes because of the constant consumption of carbs. My husband is now 68 & is very good health. We have a very dear friend here in Idaho who is a cardiologist. He stated quite firmly that the body does not know what to do with margerine & other types of phoney fats. He also told my husband that there is no harm whatsoever in eating red meats. We fully understand that all that we do we must do in moderation. Thank you for being available to guide people toward a healthier life style.

Here! Here!

Unfortunately, my family falls into that category. Over the last couple years, I have been trying to cook more whole foods, use olive oil, and buy whole grain breads, but it is hard sometimes. Sometimes I have to go with More Filling/Less Money items. I think you gals are right about the chemicals, and such, so I am trying to make little changes as I can. I would be interested if anyone who buys and cooks this way is also trying to lose weight. Or I guess I should say, who IS losing weight. Anyone's thoughts on this would be appreciated. :-)

Thanks for this. I have a friend that recently switched to butter so it made me look into it as well. I agree with you, but I will say, that while God did make the animals and their products for us to eat, I believe in meats and the like being consumed in moderation, which I think is another thing that led to obesity---overeating! People that cannot eat things in moderation!

I am on a diet to lower my VLDL and Triglycerides and to raise my HDL. Guess what it is! Eggs bacon (no Nitrates and nitrites of course!) fish meat and veggies. No grains sugar juices or fruit for a couple of months only. I was told to eat only butter olive oil or coconut oil and avocados. Later I can add back sprouted bread and a little fruit. I can use real cream on berries in the morning only. I'll let you know how it works. I did the Atkins diet years ago and within 3 weeks lowered my Cholesterol by 100 points, and lost 20 lb! With a high fat diet! Proves it the low fat junk that's killing us off!!
Thanks for a hilarious and informative blog! You go girl!

Good on you. I cannot say enough how much I support you in butterfressing.

Ever heard of Yogurt butter? Absolute nectar of the gods, best eaten on fresh German bread.

Woohoo!! Good for you Laura! I can't wait to hear all the great advice I know you will give. We try to eat everything REAL. I just love my farm fresh milk! What upsets me the most is all of the new "organic" or "healthy" foods that have hit the market lately. Just because it says it's organic/healthy doesn't mean it is. A friend of mine started buying the whole wheat white bread for her kids, thinking it was so much healthier than the white bread. When I made her read the ingredients it was made with the same "enriched flour" that the white bread was! Not a bit healthier! Store bought bread it horrible for you - It is loaded with preservatives to keep it fresh until you get it.

Well, I guess that's my soap-box!
