Nothing Says Happy Valentine’s Day…
By…like new potholders.
Matt and I have always been a little bit rebellious when it comes to Valentine’s Day. We refuse to go out on a date that night because sitting in a crowded restaurant with 489 other couples is not really our idea of romantic. And roses are expensive and then they die.
But don’t worry. Do I LOOK like I’m date deprived? My husband proves his love to me all the time and we are more than happy to stay home with the kids on Valentine’s night to make heart shaped pizza with all six of us.
So this year, imagine my surprise when my husband noticed my pathetic, icky, disgusting, over-used potholders while I was taking something out of the oven last week. (I’d show you a picture, but just imagine black sticky rectangles with a frayed loop on the end and you’ll be fine.) He said, “Well…it looks like you could use some new potholders for Valentine’s Day.”
Oh how my heart did flutter.
I’m eagerly looking forward to pulling our heart shaped pizza out of the oven with my new Valentine potholders.
I believe I may just have to outdo myself this year and surprise Matt with some sizzling new work gloves. Be still my heart.
Oh but it’s the simple, inexpensive things that are the finest treasures, wouldn’t you agree?

Ah, a girl after my own heart! To quote “Robots”, see a need, fill a need! It looks like Phil and I will be getting a new battery for our Jeep this year as our “gift”.

I got a steam mop for V-Day! And I LOVE IT!!!

My hubby and I are not into occasion gifts. We like to be nice to each other every day. We get each other spur of the moment gift or the very best we buy our home gifts! Our toaster died so we are getting a toaster oven for those morning bagels.

The simple, useful gifts are always the best gifts!

I totally relate to this! I have been asking for a griddle for years and tonight he just couldn’t wait and I got it early… I was so excited! Many wives want jewelry and I’m so thrilled to have it in time for Valentine’s Day breakfast! Ahhhhhh loooove :)

I think I’m going to buy myself a stick vacuum for V-day (after I discuss with hubby, of course)! Target had a pretty good one for $20, so I think we can swing it!! I have 3 kids that are ages 5 and under and I just can’t spend my days sweeping the floor 18 times.
Who ever made up that rule about not buying your wife an appliance for a holiday obviously wasn’t married to a homemaker!! Simple pleasures!

I just blogged about this, you go girl. It’s silly for people to show their love on one day of the year. Enjoy your pizza and above all else your family. angie

My hubby bought me a nice new food processor for V-day! Mine died a while back and I use it all the time. I love my new one and I love to get practical stuff I need and will use every day:)

It’s just so nice when they notice what you need! That is what true love really is. I’m not a roses and dinner out kind of girl. I’m happy that my husband tries to give me what I want, rather than what some other woman wants. :) Enjoy your day!

That is so sweet. I love reading your posts. You are too cute.
My hubby and I are just not Valentine’s Day people. He shows me he loves me all the time, and I hope I do the same. And I have no desire to go to a fancy restaurant and be forced to eat an $85 set menu that probably has stuff I don’t like on it.
This year we decided to invite over some older, single friends for dinner and ignore the holiday. Very much looking forward to it!

My MIL LOVES dimes (seriously…they are so small that if you take 1 pound of dimes and one pound of quarters, the dimes will be worth much, much more) so my FIL loves to leave dimes for her here and there. Sometimes he leaves them in her chair and sometimes in her car – he loves putting them where they are not found right away. (And she doesn’t just collect them. One year they bought a brand new tv – a REALLY nice one – by cashing in her change.) My hubby followed suit and would leave quarters (so his mom wouldn’t fight me over the coins I think…LOL! :o) on the door handle of my car when I was leaving just minutes after him to get to work. He would leave them on the counter and everywhere. It really is the little things! :o)

The small things in life are always the best! I love that others notice this as well.
I’m not a fan of all the unpractial gifts that are so widely pushed for Valentine’s Day. I would much rather spend quality time with my husband at home, than sit in a crowded restaurant, or him pay $60+ for flowers that will die in a week.
This V-Day I got seeds for my garden this year…the gift that gives all year! :)

My hubby loves his work gloves, esp since he’s a carpenter. So, he would like that gift, too.

lol…I love it! My dh would much rather have something practical also. Me? I like either/or. He got me nice stuff this year (early). If you want to see it go check out my blog. But he also got me a KitchenAid mixer a few months ago just because. I had been wanting one for a long time.

I love it! :) We’re doing a heart-shaped pizza for dinner, too.
Blessings,

I share your sentiments. My hubby and I are both pretty frugal anyway, and the cost of an expensive meal or a dozen roses that will die is not what we want to spend money on. We don’t need to spend money to remind one another how much we love each other!

I love reading your blog! You have such great ideas and you are too funny!

Nothing says forever like a nice piece of jewelery!! I’m a jewelery person. My hubby bought me a new pair of earrings (a VERY NICE pair I might add)!!! LOVE them!
I’ve told my hubby even while we were dating I’d rather jewelery over flowers. Flowers DIE, helllllo. Now I did tell him I don’t mind being surprised w/them. But I’m won’t be surprised on days where they are expected.
So my hubby got new cuff links (he wears suits a few days a week), and I got earrings. Then he made ME dinner.

Well, call me spoiled, but roses and chocolate are still my favorite.
