Do you have to pay the $99 a year for Prime/mom? I compare prices all the time from our local stores and amazon. I just don’t know if I’m getting the savings by paying the $99 a year. I know it’s pennies a day, but I was just wondering. I’m always trying to save, even when it comes to fees.
Thanks!

Yes, it does cost $99. For me, it is very worth it to pay that amount as I would be spending MUCH more in gas to drive to the nearest city to get items like this that I order. Plus, the discounts offered at Amazon can be really good, again making that $99 worth it in the long run. :)

I have been doing the Amazon Prime share with some friends….we all chip in $20 and get the free shipping for a year. I had been toying with the idea to get my own for the 20% off my auto ships each month (right now I get 15%) and the difference I figured was around $85 a year additional I could save by buying my own membership, plus free shipping and the Amazon Instant movies you get for having the Prime….now with that additional discount going away, I am not sure I would upgrade to my own….probably just continue sharing…..I have Netflix so I am good!

Good idea to share the cost with friends!

I’ve been using Prime/Amazon Mom for two or three years. My last update was for $79, but I guess it will be $99 next year. I think it will still be worthwhile for me, but I’ll need to assess that before renewing. I use it for pantry items that I can get better prices on than in stores (although you need to keep checking to be sure the price is good enough), pet food and supplies (I get my dog high-end food, and the prices for some that I buy are better on Amazon), and some supplements that aren’t easy to find in stores. I’m also a remote employee and use Amazon Prime to order some basic office supplies. I get reimbursed for them by my employer, but it’s nice to get a printer cartridge in two days and not have to rush out to Staples (which often doesn’t have what I need in stock). I’m glad you pointed out the forthcoming slight drop in discount, Laura, because I may choose to add a thing or two to my October order that I may have delayed otherwise.

What if you are not an amazon mom member and only a prime member, then would your discount still remain at 20% for subscribe & save items?
Laura says
No, without being an amazon mom member, the rate stays at 15% for subscribe and save items. However, after Nov 11, even amazon mom members stay at that 15% mark. Still a great discount, just not as sweet. :)
