How Very Random of Me

By Laura · Jun,17 2009

Yes indeed, it’s time for another random post.  As always, there’s no rhyme or reason or order to any of these thoughts.  I’m sure your brain loves trying to keep up with me…

A few days ago, I was putting a bottle of vanilla away in the cabinet above my stove.  And I dropped it.  My lovely ceramic top stove cracked.  :(  Thankfully I can still use three out of four burners (and thankfully my bottle of vanilla didn’t break).  But the whole experience made me wonder…if I had to replace my stove, would I want to have gas?  Or would I stick with electric?  Hmm.

I hosted “bunco” at my house this week.  All last week as I was preparing, I was having a crazy amount of bunco stress.  Like…I couldn’t stand for my house not to look perfect when my friends came over.  Silly.  I mentioned my bunco stress to a couple of friends a few days before the “big” event.  They (very nicely) told me to get over it.  And so I did.  In fact, I decided not to dust my fireplace before everyone came (just to make a point).  Then with my finger, I wrote “BUNCO!” in the dust so that everyone would feel welcome.  It was a hit.  Why, I think we’ll all avoid dusting before bunco from now on.  It’s really about the fellowship anyway, right?  Right.

We got to go pick pie cherries at my friend Michelle’s house a few days ago!  It was oh so fun!  I couldn’t believe the boys.  These things are SOUR, and there they were, eating them one right after another.  :)

I’m so used to doing Swagbuck searches when I’m researching things like “recipe for strawberry bread” and “what is a good non-toxic hand soap” that one day recently I caught myself sitting down to the computer to do a Swagbuck search on “where did I put my shoes, I can’t find them”.  Of course I realized that while doing online searches are usually helpful in so many areas…even the computer has it’s limits.  (I found my shoes all by myself, by the way.  They were exactly where I’d left them.)

I got my Sonlight curriculum catalog AND my Rainbow Resource catalog in the mail on the SAME day last week.  Talk about fun!  Except that I won’t let myself look at them until July.  It’s a rule I made for myself.  Because…I get so excited about school with the boys whenever I look through a catalog that I’ll be wanting to start school next week already if I look now.  So…the catalogs are waiting expectantly on my dresser until July first (at midnight).

Malachi (age 4) has decided that he’s never going to get married.  In fact, he’s been quite concerned lately that we’re going to force this marriage thing on him and make him move out.  We’ve reassured him over and over that he never has to get married and that he can live with us forever and ever (and that if someday he changes his mind, that’s okay with us too).  Ah, my baby…I want to be your favorite girl for a long, long time.

So what’s going on with you? Anything random you’d like to share?  Go ahead.  We can handle it.

Hmmm…. random…. We’re having a thunderstorm tonight, and I’m afraid that my alarm won’t wake me up for a training I have to attend in the morning. But, then again, it doesn’t really matter. I obsessively use my cell phone as a second alarm clock on my night stand. I’m such a snooze person that I’m always afraid I’ll snooze my way into late morning without getting up. So the cell phone alarm is a life-saver, reminding me that I really do have to get up! Now that’s really random!

Here’s a random question – why is it when I make shephards pie I either end up with way too much mashed potato topping, or (as now) I have about 2 tablespoons too little?

How fun! I have a gas stove and after about a year we have made peace and I am no longer scared of the thing…it has flames shooting up for goodness sakes! Yikes! I was converted by the speed at which it heats things up but I still get nervous sometimes!

  4. I haven’t been here long, and I’m excited to see you are a fellow Sonlighter! And I’m curious, what does Bunco stand for? If you tell me I’ll tell you what a toque is *grin*.

My parent’s homeowners insurance covered replacing the ceramic top when Dad cooked a teapot empty and burned it to the top.

Random? The cow got out again. There is a full scale search going on right now. And I just CANNOT motivate myself to go work on my very non-random garden. Instead I am here on the computer reading randomness…

    1. I can never remember my blog web address. How dumb is that?

    2. When I am watching or attending a sporting event there is one thought that pops into my mind each and every time. Do you think about this too? I think, if God were to place a light on only those people going to heaven-how many would that be? Would there even be one?

    3. Yesterday I could not get the key out of my ignition and (after almost an hour in a parking lot in the pouring rain) decided to call in sick at work and came home. Yes, the key did come out-eventually. I decided that God didn’t want me to go to work and I happily settled into cleaning the house. I don’t know about you, but I love to clean my home and have everything in order. When I clean I feel better and my head is clear and fully of happy thoughts. I love a clean house. Love it.

Strawberry bread is really yummy. Did you find a recipe? If not we can share the one that we found. Great way to use up those strawberries. We are also going cherry picking tomorrow. How do you use those up? Love your blog. Thanks for the time you put into it and sharing with all of us.

  10. Aren’t those catalogs fun and inspiring? [smile] I love reading again and again how excited people are for their next year. It’s a beautiful thing.

Ironically my 4 year old keeps talking about wanting to have a daughter. I explained to him that he has to get married first and he says he can’t because he doesn’t have any getting married clothes.

I have decided that killdeer are the cutest baby birds I have ever seen. We have 3 of them on our property. They look exactly like the adults only mini. The township workers had to wait for them to move before they could fix our road.
