How ‘Bout That? I Found My Living Room

By Laura · Jan,02 2009

After we unloaded the van from our big California trip…our living room looked like Christmas had exploded all over it.  I’m so sorry I didn’t think to take a picture of it for you.  Or, was it actually that I couldn’t possibly reach my camera without slipping on a Santa Claus gift bag or stepping on a suitcase with clothes streaming out of it?

Yesterday, I finally got things under control again.  We got the Christmas tree and other decorations put away…found homes for our new toys…found drawers for our clean clothes…stashed the suitcases in the closet…swept…vacuumed…dusted…and rearranged the furniture.

Sigh of relief.  The living room is back.

Now I’m off to tackle all kinds of other rooms that have similar explosions all over them.

Just in case you are missing your living room and this post wasn’t enough to inspire you to get out the shovel and start digging…might I suggest that you go over to Organizing Junkie for more motivation?

Looks wonderful! We’ve done the same and while I do love the Christmas lights and decor, I am more than ready to take them down come the new year.

May I ask, is that a fireplace insert that you have? My husband has been wanting to get one for a couple of years now. Do you like it and does it heat the house (or at least keep it warmer)? Thanks.

  6. I just dove in to my living room disaster. As I was reading this, I thought, “Thank you! There IS light at the end of this cluttered, not-festive-at-all-anymore tunnel!” You have inspired me.

    To answer Step’s question:

Yes, it is a woodburning insert in our living room. We LOVE it. Our house is OLD and drafty and big…it’s very hard to keep it warm. The insert has helped a ton…although mostly in the living room area. It doesn’t keep the whole house warm. Matt puts in a lot of hours chopping wood and the boys spend a lot of time bringing up more wood to the house.

It has cut our heating costs by quite a bit…our next step is blowing in insulation…which will be a HUGE help in cost cutting and keeping our house much warmer. I can’t wait!!

Oh, and by the way…normally inserts like the one we got are around $3500 or so. We got this one used (2 years old and barely used) for $500 from someone who couldn’t use it because of allergies. What a blessing!

Your living room is so beautiful I just want to curl up in one of those big comfy chairs in front of the fire with a good book. Mind if I come over? :)

Thanks for answering me. I keep reading the bible and I tend to over think things sometimes. All the what ifs to everything and I know God doesn’t want us to worry so I’m leaving it up to him and we’ll see what happens. angie
