As a child, when I was told that it was venison,I would curl up my nose and "get sick". I did not like venison. After all, I knew where it came from.

As a child, when I ate "roast" I would ask for second and third helpings. I later learned that Granny's venison had been renamed "roast" for my benefit.

Growing up the daughter of an avid hunter, I can totally appreciate your excitement!

I've come home to a deer hung in my backyard - now that's something most people don't see every day...

Blessings,
Steph

And, of course, the meat is hormone and additive free! My family is always thankful when someone is willing to share moose meat with us. In my opinion, it is even less gamey than deer. More often though, we are blessed with those who share fresh Alaska salmon with us. I'm not crazy about fish, but it is so fresh and wild and good for us that I've learned to cook it several yummy ways that my husband and I enjoy.

I love deer meat. It brings back memories of my grandpa who used to be an avid hunter. Whenever we'd go to Colorado, we'd always have a venison roast, and it was so good. A few years back, we made some of the meat into jerky with a dehydrator. Yum! Enjoy your deer!

You have reminded me of when we used to live in Alabama and would get venison from hunters with surplus. I made about 5 gallons of deer chili one time. It's a great way to use up some of the meat. But, man, we got tired of eating chili that winter.

I'm thankful for the same thing! We allow a father and son to hunt on our property (my husband doesn't hunt) and they always share with us - it's such a blessing! Thank you for hosting this and reminding us to be thankful all year.
