Gratituesday: “Mom, We Need to Pray!”

I was fighting a headache. It is hard to focus, hard to move, and hard to parent when my head is pounding.

I did everything I could from drinking lots of water to using my new essential oils to taking a nap. The pain began to ease, but still had me moving slowly.

And then Malachi, my eight year old, came into the room. He’s the one who understands suffering. He asked how I was feeling, and I gave him a weary smile – telling him that I was a little better.

Suddenly, he lit up and said with force, “Mom, we need to pray! God’s power can make your head stop hurting!”

I know this about God’s power. I’d been praying since my head started hurting. I’d been trying to release any tension and stress and just give it to God so that I could feel better again. But there was something so strong about Malachi’s words, and the faith by which he said them. I melted.  I asked, “Malachi, will you pray with me – the way I pray with you when you don’t feel well?”

And then he did. He took my hand, and asked God to make me feel better. It was sweet. It was simple. It was faith filled and powerful.

I love that he has learned that God is the One we turn to when we don’t feel well and when we need help. I love that he knows how to pray. And I love that he did for me just what I needed him to do.

oh the faith of a little one…. my 5 yr old daughter has started praying that the lava would stay away from our house… we live in western PA – pretty sure the chances of lava hitting our house are very very slim… but that is her concern and she has a right to take it before our Lord!

Hello Laura, First time on your site, and I am so blessed I found it. I was directed here via the organization junkie http://orgjunkie.com/ website (new to her also). Love, love, love your Gratituesday! I am brand new to the online presence and am enjoying the setup and writing of my blog. Thank you for your upfront love of the Lord. I WILL be back. Blessings!
Just a note: Your Gratituesday made me remember years ago when I did a teaching called “Your Gratitude is the combination of your Grace and Attitude” in your journey. Both are necessary for a ftuitful life, but when we let them walk together, they enable us to share the fruit with those in our lives. Thanks for the reminder!

I use Dr Christopher’s Bone and Tissue Massage Oil on my neck and upper back for a tension headache and it is like a miracle. We keep it on hand for any sore muscles too. Vitacost carries it.
    Such a sweet story!

I think this is the most touching post you’ve ever written since I’ve been reading your blog. My husband and I have 3 boys and I enjoy reading how y’all are raising them to be Godly men. We are on the same path. Thanks for the encouragement.

Precious words. We need to run to God in the good times and the bad times. God is always good no matter what is happening in our life. Good reminder .

This brought tears to my eyes. It shows you are doing a good job of raising your sons to trust God. Children are a blessing from God and it is neat to see their faith in Him grow.

What a sweet boy! My goal is to have my three little ones (ages 5, 4 and 1) someday think of praying and God first, too.

Laura, had one of those headaches a couples weeks ago…..medicine was not working; I too had been praying all day……Jordan kept checking in on me & he too kept coming & telling me ‘Mommy, I am still praying…..:) He’s in Control…..thats what you tell us’..:). The headach did not go away right away…but my heart sure felt better! The Lord sure has a plan for everything. You see we have 6 blessings @ home & Jordan has dyslexia & lots of times we do not know what he is understanding when we are teaching him…:) But God does! Have a Blessed Week!…..:)

What a neat story. I was dealing with a headache today as well and felt very blessed by my children too – the way they step in and help out and how we can pray together. God is very good!

I don’t know if it’s because I’m pregnancy and overly emotional but this made me cry! and I mean cry!

How sweet, and what a testimony to the faith of a child and how you and your husband are raising your children.

I was at a baby appt the other day, and my 3 yr old and 2 yr old saw a picture on a magazine and said it was Jesus (even though it was just a guy with a beard) and then started singing Jesus Loves Me in the waiting room. It melted my heart.
