Gratituesday: Exercise

If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you might be laughing after seeing that my title states that this week, I am thankful for exercise.

I’m the girl who doesn’t like exercise – and that’s putting it mildly.  Exercise is painful.  It also hurts and is sometimes fairly miserable – not that I’m a whiner or anything.  ;)  I’ve never really enjoyed exercise, and I’ve never understood people who do.  Until now.

To say that I now love to exercise would be stretching it a bit, so I won’t go that far.  But truly, I can say that I love how I feel afterward, and I love that I’m exercising with a great friend.

Ah yes, I’m pretty sure this exercise thing wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for my friend Jen.  She’s a basketball coach, so she knows a thing or two about proper exercise, which I have found very helpful.  But more importantly, the two of us have so much fun together and have such great conversation that I sometimes forget I’m intentionally inflicting pain on myself…I mean getting a work-out.  At this point, we are up to walking several miles at a time, with a tiny bit of jogging thrown in.  Maybe we’ll start the Couch to 5K program soon?  Yes, that’s what we’re thinking.  Now that the muscle soreness has eased, I’ve gotta say that I am feeling really, really good.

So there you go.  I’m actually thankful for exercise.  Will wonders never cease?  :)

Yay! I like T-Tapp, but most of the time it takes a lot of push to start the video. Love that you have a exercise partner. Clara keeps me company. :)

I walked each morning with a friend for a year and a half, and we recently had to stop. Now I’m trying to get back into the habit, and it’s much harder by myself! It’s wonderful that you can do that!

I’m thankful for exercise too… though I am one of those girls who has to be tricked into it by making it fun :). Exercise has never been my forte!

Way to go! Exercise is one of those things that I’ll do really well at for a while, then get sick (or have the kids sick) and fall off the bandwagon. I am currently on my rear, off the bandwagon. Thanks for the encouragement to start inflicting pain on myself again. (I know my heart would thank me!)

I’ve been working out in my home since I was pregnant with my youngest daughter who is now 24 years old. I also have had dairy goats for 2 years and there’s always something to do outside with them even if it’s just playing. I guess you can say that “I like to exercise”!

I was just thinking the same thing. Through your blog, I clicked on Charlotte Seims page one day and discovered TTapp. I did not know what it was, but did eventually buy a tape and I love it!! I feel so revitalized since starting this program. Highly reccommend!

I did the 5k 101 program last year, and I liked it a lot better than the couch to 5k program. It’s the same basic idea, but for some reason, 5k 101 just clicked with me. I think it’s because it was easier for the first few weeks, so I felt more accomplishment? But whatever it was, I ran three 5k’s last year, and have two more coming up in the next few months!

I LOVE T-Tapp! It’s easy on the body and you can do it anywhere. Laura, thanks for hosting! I’m grateful that we’re finally getting some rain!

I’m contemplating starting up the Couch to 5K program. My younger sister already runs 5K races and I would love to join her.

For right now, my dog is content that I’m “enjoying” exercise during this mild Iowa winter. She’s getting more walks than she’s used to :)

I’ve started exercising myself lately. So far I’m doing it alone, and I’m not yet consistent, but its a start. I’ve heard a little about the Couch to 5K program, but I’m not sure I’m ready for it. Good for you for getting out there!

I really need to start exercising too. I’ll do it once or twice then not at all for a while. Right now I have a cold so I’m trying to rest up as much as possible while keeping up with my kids.

Today I’m thankful for being a SAHM. I’m linked up too.

I am working towards exercise. It’s tough to get started, but I know once I figure out my routine I’ll be good!! Thank you for posting about it! I would LOVE to do couch to 5K this year! Thank you for your encouragement too!

I’m thankful for great friends (my bestie has already started her exercise routines) who can encourage me along the way!

    Blessings…

For the past week I’ve been doing yoga every morning with a little extra different exercise after it. It’s so been worth sticking to because I do feel better and it’s a great way to start my day. I plan to add tougher exercises in as I get stronger. That’s great you are sticking to your exercising, it’s definitely a challenge!

I have to say that I love to exercise. I’ve been doing workout tapes since I was pretty young with my mom (Jane Fonda, Stormie O’Martin…). I got out of the habit in college and when I first got married, but then a friend introduced me to kickboxing and I haven’t been able to stop since then. I started with Tae Bo (Billy Blanks) and have been doing his workouts now for about 12 years. Love them! Since then I’ve wanted to add more strength training so for the past 2 years I’ve been doing P90X and a few Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper DVDs. I have quite a collection of DVDs to choose from but I’ve been at it for a while now too. Plus I love to run with my kids while they ride their bikes, we go for hikes, rollerblade, etc. It’s just fun to be active and my husband is thankful too. It keeps me young and gives me energy. You can do it, Laura! Start small and you’ll learn to love it too!

I have one thing to say about the Couch to 5K program: DO IT! I have never liked exercise and thought running especially was only for die-hard exercise nuts. But a couple of years ago, I was talking with some friends of mine and we thought it would be fun to start training together to eventually run a 5K. We decided to start Couch to 5K, and a few weeks later, I ran my first 5K ever – and I didn’t stop once! It was the most amazing feeling to cross that finish line and accomplish something I never. ever. thought I would do. And you know what? I loved it! It is a great program.

I have just recently started a Couch to 5K!!! I hate anything exercise related! But this has started to be fun..I am doing it alone or sometimes with a friend. And of course my sweet 14months old..who is patiently sitting in her new jogging stroller… I have set a goal to run a 5K race after this 9 wks training is over and I feel like that is good reason for me not to give up. Wish me luck!

I am a fitness instructor and have been since just before I started having children. It is my hobby, the thing I do for myself to get me out of the house. We all have hobbies we love – for me it is the excuse of “well, the instructor has to be there!” My first 2 suggestions for those who want to start an exercise program are: 1. Find something you LOVE (for some it would be walking, jogging, spin class, Zumba, etc.). 2. Get an exercise buddy – you keep each other in check and keep each other motivated. Enjoy your workouts Laura and your time with your friend! Exercise doesn’t have to be painful – make it fun!

I’m thankful for a husband who WANTS me to stay home with his children.
I’m also grateful for Azure Standard, because they have a drop point close to me.
