Our six year old has struggled with chronic eczema since he was two months old. If you’ve been reading here long, you know the heartache we’ve had watching our boy suffer from this.
The hardest part of this has been that we’ve felt so helpless. We’ve tried so many different remedies in an effort to give him comfort and ultimately, to try to find healing for him. Time after time, try after try, dollar after dollar, nothing took away his miserable skin condition. We’re thankful that through this journey, our family has learned about eating a whole foods diet and about non-toxic cleaning and using non-toxic products on our skin. We’ve also learned quite a bit about overall body health and that simply “fixing Malachi’s skin” or any medical condition is not just a matter of “take this pill or use this cream” – we must get to the root of the problem.
Once we began seeking alternative and more natural sources of healing, we were taught that eczema is not ultimately a skin issue. It appears to be a skin issue because that is where the pain and itching manifest themselves. But skin is an organ. When other organs are not working properly, the organ of the skin can be effected. This was the case for Malachi. Doctors found that his liver and kidneys were not working properly, thus toxins were not being flushed the way they needed to be. Toxins have to go somewhere and in Malachi’s case, they were coming out through his skin. Therefore, he was covered with eczema. (Obviously, this is just my “mommy version” of the diagnosis – I don’t know all of the technical ins and outs of this. Also, not all cases of eczema are the same. This is just Malachi’s story.)
Steroids and cortisone creams had helped clear his skin somewhat when we tried those in the very beginning, but since those were only meant to treat the symptoms, as soon as he stopped using them, his skin broke out again. Once we had an understanding about the toxins trying to rid themselves from his body, it scared us to use the steroids and cortisone creams. Beyond other long term side effects that can result in him using steroids and cortisone creams, the thought of the toxins being suppressed in his little body gave us cause for many other more serious fears.
Over the past six years, we’ve tried a variety of natural methods to cleanse his system. Some of them were effective for a time, but did not clear him up completely. (You can read here about several things we’ve done that did make a difference – at least it kept the eczema from becoming worse!)
You may remember that we tried a gluten free diet last spring. You can read the details here, but long story short, it didn’t help even a little bit. We considered taking him off dairy, off eggs, off night shade veggies, off whatever it took to help him feel better. Thankfully, in the meantime, we heard about a biochemist in Wisconsin who sounded like a promising option. We’d heard great testimonies about how she’d helped others, not only with eczema but with all sorts of health issues.
We decided to make the investment. It wasn’t cheap (although it was very reasonable for the services offered). It was hard work. We had to carefully watch what Malachi ate and be diligent about giving him supplements. One of the simple but most important things – we had to make sure he was drinking plenty of water to flush out his system while the supplements, digestive enzymes and cleansing products went to work.
It was not an easy fix. It was not without frustration. Malachi did not become better overnight.
But after a long summer of dedicated time spent on this, he is now only taking minimal supplements and is back to eating almost all of the regular healthy, whole foods we feed our family. Now that we are at this point, it is very apparent that when he drinks his needed quota of water each day, he feels much better.
Praise be to God, our boy is making his way toward good health! The relief and gratitude we feel can not be put into words.
Look at that sweet, clear baby skin. I can’t help but kiss him frequently. Even during math lessons.
(And in case you’re wondering, he’s eating a vanilla pudding pop.)
I have to say that I’ve been hesitant to share too much about this on my blog. I WANT all of you to know about this amazing treatment option. There is hope and there is healing for eczema, allergies, behavior issues – many health concerns. A big part of me has wanted to shout this from the roof-tops – CALL THIS LADY! SHE CAN HELP YOU!!!! But there are many of you and I don’t want to overwhelm her with emails and phone calls. She has a heart of gold and a desire to help as many as she can, but she is also a human being with limits. So, I share hesitantly. ;) Except for WOW I’M SO THANKFUL – that part I’m not hesitant about! You’ve all been so supportive and caring while we’ve walked this journey with Malachi. You deserve to have an update on his progress.
Thank you all so much for cheering for us and for caring about our boy. God is always, always, always faithful.
UPDATE:
We were initially helped by a Biochemist, named Su. I don’t know if Su still practices or not as I haven’t been in touch with her in several years and we’ve since found a local natural doctor that helped us even more! But here’s her contact information: [email protected] . Also, you can check out her new website here: http://www.promiseoutreach.org/
Either way, I encourage you to search for a natural doctor in your area who will help you get to the root of the problem. We sure appreciate our doctor who treated our son’s problem instead of his symptoms!

What an amazing story. His skin is beautiful. Would love to know more. My teen broke out in eczema suddenly earlier this year & it has not gone away. The creams are the only thing that is keeping her sane during our trials of diff things. We’ve done the allergist route to no avail. We are currently on a no gluten, dairy, soy diet, but we don’t see any improvement yet. We’ve also tried Vit. E. Not sure where to go from here except to eliminate all food. Not wise! Can you share the name of the lady in Wisconsin?
Laura says
I’d prefer to give you the info by email, if you don’t mind emailing me when you have time. :)

A biochemist? I’m wondering if there would be others like her that could give us assistance locally? Does she have collegeagues she could recommend for us not living near her? I’ve been frustrated for years with my daughters eczema. It has been truly heartbreaking. Dairy free has helped keep it tolerable but it’s not going away…Thank you for sharing and Praise the Lord for your sucess and willingness to do the work!
Laura says
I know she has been training others to do what she does – and I’m sure there must be others out there who follow her same philosophy of helping people, but I’m not sure where they are!
Renee Harris says
That’s fantastic, Laura! Does she have the same or similar treatment for each patient or does it vary by person?
Laura says
Each person is treated differently, depending on what their body needs. I love that it’s an individual treatment instead of a “one size fits all”!

My son had horrible eczema from 2 mo to 16 mo old. It made me cry often, and looking back at the pictures of his seaping skin still makes me cry. I HATED using the creams, especially when the dermatologists told me that was the ONLY solution!!! Finally after lots of trial and error with foods, and his 1st B-day I took him to an allergist, found out he was allergic to eggs. I took him off everything that had to do with eggs and he immediately cleared up. Now he can have them in moderation with no outbreaks. I am so thankful I found a “cure” so early on. You do make me wonder what else might be going on. I am trying to do more whole foods, so hopefully if there was something else going on in him, it will be gone for good. Thanks for this post!
Molly S says
My son’s eczema was caused by eggs too. It started around 3 months. The doctor just told me to put some lotion on it. About a minute of research online led me to try eliminating foods. Started with eggs and his skin cleared right up. ( we are currently looking for a different doctor!) I’m encouraged to hear you say that your son can have eggs now. I’m hoping that I caught it soon enough that it won’t be a full blown allergy. Thanks for sharing!
Chelsea Seibert says
We have had a similar experience with our son, his eczema showed up at about 9 months old and we discovered that he also suffered from asthma at about 18 months. The MD wanted to put him on steroids (Yes, at 18 months!), we decided that there had to be a better way. We found a Naturopathic Doc (went through a few to find him!) that has been able to help us, through diet and supplements we were able to keep the asthma under control, and my husband was actually able to get completely off of his asthma meds in a year. The excema, however, hung on, and hung on, and hung on! We were found that avoiding refined foods, pasturized dairy, and nightshade veggies eased the eczema, but nothing turned out to be “the miracle cure”. He is now 8 years old and his skin is clear, and asthma not a problem as long as we only eat what we should (better for all of us anyway). Praise God for relief!! Rejoicing with you!!!!!

Lorrie says
What beautiful skin – he looks wonderful! (Not to mention cute as can be!) Did you have to travel to Wisconsin, or did you do a telephone consult? Does she help with other conditions, or only specialize in eczema?
Laura says
No, we didn’t have to travel, thankfully. We sent lab work in and did phone consults. She helps many other conditions beyond eczema. It’s quite amazing to see. We’re so thankful for her.
Charlotte Moore says
When I first heard of Sue Becker and went to her class on grinding your own grain and making bread I was astonished at what I heard. I took a tape to a friend that had a child with many warts and she had eczema. Well, that mom started doing her on bread and her warts went away and her eczema improved. It did not cure it but it improved. Sue did recommend the hard red wheat grain.

My daughter was very sick after having surgery. She experienced a lot of dizziness and was deficient in a lot of nutrients. Doctor after doctor could not get to the root cause of the problem. She saw a doctor/dentist who put her on a lot of supplements to cleanse out her body, she started feeling better. Then I learned about energy work. I heard it from Dr. Bradley Nelson’s book “The Emotion Code”. He also has “The Body Code”. It is on book and audiotape form. It has done wonders for so many mental and physical issues that have piled up with her. And the rest of the family. It can be done in person or over the phone and is easy for someone to learn themselves. It opens the doors to a whole new world that many don’t even know exists. It helps with pain, headaches, depression, confidence, sickness, anger, frustration, the list is endless.
Carol says
My daughter’s allergies have decreased too. Dr. Nelson’s approach is through kinesiology, or muscle
testing.
One of his websites on the subject is: http://www.healerslibrary.com/what-is-the-emotion-code/.

My husband has a skin issue only on his back and we were also told that it was a result of his liver and kidneys not getting rid of the toxins. I’m curious, once you started “treatment” and supplements, how long did it take for your sons skin to clear up? We are week 3 of a no/low sugar diet (which is what we were told to do) and it seemed to get better the first week and then it seemed to get bad again. I guess I’m hopeful that its just going to take a while. :) Thanks!
Emily says
Sorry, I meant hopeful that it’s taking a while and that this is really the answer. Not some other problem.
Laura says
We began in mid-May and by August we were seeing some real improvements.

Laura, I suffer from serious on my scalp. Terrible horrible itchy think patches that can some times bleed. I would love the ladies info that helped you out. I am so happy for your son that found some relief.
Kristy @ Little Natural Cottage says
I’m so, so happy to hear this, Laura- praise God!
I fully understand the frustration of having a child with chronic issues. Two of our four children have SEVERE issues with allergies. Our baby, especially, has suffered a lot with health issues since his birth.
We have found so much help through homeopathy. God has blessed us with a wonderful, Christian homeopath. It has made a dramatic difference in our family’s health, and most especially our two sons’ health. Watching them slowly recovering their health and, one by onc, overcome allergy issues, has been such a rewarding experience. Hard, hard work, but SO worth it!
Shawna Cale says
Laura, I am so happy your son is doing so much better. I have been studying water. We all know they say to drink lots of water, but I am one of those that ask why. So I have searched for the reasons why and have learned lots. Water really should be our first “medication” to our bodies ills. I have been using water instead of ibuprofen for headaches, leg aches, etc. My kids now know if they say something hurts, I say “go drink 2 glasses of water and we will talk about it.”
Lana says
I tell my kids the same thing so I am laughing here because they hate that. You and I both know that it works though!
Kristina says
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for curing rosacea. I’ve had it for years but it’s gotten really bad after having three children. I know it has to do with more than my skin, but I don’t know what to do about “cleansing” the inside. We eat a very healthy, whole foods diet. I live in Southern California if anyone has an altenative doctor they would recommend i’d love to receive the information. I’ve already been to the doctor and dermatologist a few times over the years, they just perscribe creams that burn my skin and make the problem worse! Thanks for any info and help you can give!
Lana says
My husband has been told the same thing about his face. I went to a Christian kinesiologist for my allergies and then hubby went to her too. She found that it was a fungus growing on his skin. He is now pretty much clear with her treatment. I am in SC so I don’t know of anyone in your area but iwe heard about who we went to by word of mouth so maybe just start asking around. Often these alternative medicine practitioners don’t advertise and are not in the phone book but just work by referal. What we take for liver cleansing is milk thistle and it works for us.
Lorrie says
Lana, if you are in the Columbia area I’d love to know who you went to see.
Lana says
Lorrie, I am in the Spartanburg area.

My poor baby girl has suffered severe allergies since birth and her skin has always been terribly itchy and inflammed. She’s almost 4 years old and nothing I’ve tried has helped. We are much too far to visit the lady who helped you, but could you share what kind of doctor, what type of medicine she practices, etc. so that I may be able to research someone closer to us?
Christa says
What fantastic news! I was interested because our daughter who has down syndrome also has had eczema all her life. The doctors only give her creams and tell me to use dandruff shampoo for her scalp. It’s not just a concentrated area. Sometimes it’s so bad she has almost lesion like sores on her head and huge red bumps on her arms legs and bottom. Nothing they’ve given us has helped.
Rebekah says
So do you think that drinking the water has helped a lot in addition to the supplements? I have 3 children with horrible allergies and I try to get them to drink a lot of water but I’m not very good about keeping up with it.
Bethany B. says
Praise the Lord! I am so happy for Malachi and for you too! My 2yr old has a long list of food allergies that can make meal planning a bit of a challenge but I am totally happy to deal with it if it helps my little man not have bad rashes. I am so happy you found this lady!

Jenelle says
Thank you for sharing. I was just reading through the blog this week looking for an update. Praise God for healing. It is SO HARD to watch your child suffer and know there is nothing that you can do to help, and the things that you do end up making things worse… at least that was our experience for the last 7 years.
We got fed up with all the treatments and took our son off of everything this summer and amazingly he started to clear up. We’ve been doing supplements and chiropractic care for a while and are liking the results we are seeing so far. Cautiously optimistic.
Julie says
So glad to hear that God has provided for your little one on this. Our daughter, who is 12 today, was born with severe eczema. She even lost her hair when she was two because there was so much eczema on her scalp that new hair couldn’t grow in. After years of trying everything anyone brought to our front door and seeing a pediatric dermatologist it occurred to me that because eczema is systemic that what I was putting on her was making it worse. I removed all petroleum from her skin care regiment and started using olive oil and lavendar essential oil mixed together. It took about a year, but it cleared up with minor flare ups in certain patches. She was nine when that happened. Different things work for everyone because I really believe everyone’s eczema is caused by something different and yet a result of the liver being unable to break down toxins. I know what it’s like to finally see some relief after years of hanging on and seeking answers. Thanks for sharing.
april says
So very happy for you! God’s heart is for nothing to be missing or broken. How wonderful to be living that out!

Praise the Lord!! His skin looks wonderful. Yes, God is faithful :)
I’m in Southern California as well. If anyone knows of a good alternative Dr, please let me know. We have an office locally, and they are OK. I’ve never had eczema, but recently broke out w/it. My children have it. It’s so frustrating. I believe it’s from organs not flushing properly as well. I drink lots of water. We found I have a blockage, yes…that kind. Yuck. Three colonics later, it’s still there. The bummer is the first two times I had them done, the gal was hurting me and I couldn’t relax. The last time I had the gal who knew what she was doing and made progress, but I didn’t have tons of time. Cost has been an issue. These treatments aren’t cheap..or fun! I need to go back. I’ve also done some Ionic foot soaks supposed to remove toxins. These DID help. I need to do many more. The bummer is natural treatments are not covered by insurance (which we have) and it frustrates my husband. Why pay for insurance he says?? Ahhh… Prayer is my best option right now. God is faithful.
Lana says
I have had good success with colon cleansing by just eating as many servings of raw fruits and veggeies as I can get down everyday and taking any kind of fiber therapy. Lots cheaper and works well. Also research taking milk thistle for liver cleansing. For the liver to detox it is important to not overdo fats and sugar, in fact almost no sugar is best.
Lisa M says
So happy to hear that something is working for him. My oldest has always had bumps. Some times they are better than others. We just got back from staying with my grandmother and I noticed that his bumps are worse – we ate some things that we do not normally and he was rolling down the hill and walking thru the fields. We have had times that it is better or worse but not gone completely. We take some supplements to help and I make our lotion. We also do a foot bath to help remove some of the toxins from the body.
thank God for your sons improvements :)

Delighted that you found something that works. My 2 year old daughter has eczema. It appeared about a week after she stopped breastfeeding at 19mths. It seems to be increasing a little bit at a time. Luckily, we had already removed processed food from our diets. Did not know about the nightshade veggies though. Sweet peppers & potatoes are her favourites. I know pasturised dairy product cause breakouts for her but raw do not. I am managing to keep it under control with a salve I make for her for the moment but will bookmark this post for the future.

Hi Laura,
my 2 y/o has ezema and is also allergic to Tree nuts and is has a mild allergy to cats which we have in the home. I would love to get more advice from you and what lotions you would recommend. Her allergist only offerred lotions like Eucerin which has Petroleum in them, which I’m not thrilled about and when I look for other Organic type lotions they all have tree nut ingredients in them like coconut oil and shea butter. Your welcome to email me at your convenience, I know your busy.
P.S., praise GOD that your son is doing great and has soft skin. My poor Zoe is always itchy and it breaks my heart to see bloody scratch marks on her arms and legs.

Laura, my daughter has dealt with food allergies and eczema since she was 8 mths old (at least, that’s when the eczema happened). She was diagnosed with some food allergies via skin prick testing, though they didn’t identify all of them; I had to also do a food journal and elimination diet (I nursed her until she was 2). Anyway, despite removing offending foods, she’s always had rough skin with various break-outs of red, raw, itchy eczema. I do believe that gut-healing is the cure, though it is hard and long and difficult with a child! I was curious about your health history, if you don’t mind sharing. I was on numerous courses of antibiotics throughout my life and with my daughter (unlike my other children), I was given antibiotics during labor for suspected positive GBS test. I was also my unhealthiest and most stressed during her pregnancy (compared to my others). I really feel like my gut health was very compromised at the time of her birth so the gut bacteria I passed to her was very deficient. I was just curious about the role of antibiotics or other gut-altering issues that might have played a part in your or your son’s allergies.
Laura says
I was given antibiotics when I was pregnant with him, and feel like that played a part in this.
I’ve also been amazed at how working on healing his insides has helped his outsides! :)
G says
I forgot to mention that my daughter is almost 8 now. We did active gut-healing until she was 4, then erroneously thought she was “better” and weren’t as vigilant. Several months ago, her skin took a turn for the worse, so we are back to taking many more supplements.
Aolani says
I’m currently dealing with the worst flare-up ever. It began several months ago and having had eczema my whole life I figured it would only last a week or two. That hasn’t been the case. I’ve been experiencing intense itching that began on my hands, spread to my arms, then legs and now face and neck. As a mom of 4 it’s become very difficult to deal with the itching and at the same time be a pleasant mommy. I find myself scratching some part of my body almost constantly to the point that I’ve bled. I want to resolve this naturally and don’t know where to go for help. When I was little all the doctors could provide were steroid creams and lotions to treat the skin. I know this is more than just a skin problem and can be a variety of issues internally. If you can share with me what helped your son I’d be so grateful!!

My son has also been suffering with skin issues for a long time. I agree prayer is key!!! And I have been praying and I have been blessed and fortunate enough to have others pray for him as well. In my efforts I’ve also take him to an allergist and he’s been taken off of dairy and I also took them off of gluten and I saw change for a little while but it still continued. He still off of dairy but I reintroduced gluten to see if it really was the culprit because even when he was off it and he was still having problems with his skin. Oh I forgot to mention he’s also been off so as well and still had the skin issues. Since we’re introduced to gluten some parts of his body and gotten better and now some new issues have come up with his skin. So the other form of eczema has going away but now he has a different form of it. It’s a little better but not by much. My son drinks plenty of water I also take him to see a nutritionist. And we always do all natural remedies first. I use coconut oil for him as lotion and we do it after we take baths. My son drinks 5 to 6 glasses of water a day there are some days that he may drink more especially in the summer or when he’s been very active. And my son is 4 years old. Anyway I say all this to explain that we have really tried many different things. I’m very interested in the biochemist in Wisconsin that you consulted with. I tried to look them up on my own and see what I can come up with but I was not able to find anyone I found one person but it was a gentleman and you refer to the person as a she so I know that was not it. I would greatly appreciate if you could please email me information of in the biochemist you saw in Wisconsin. We eat Whole Foods we eat organic we don’t eat dairy we have stopped gluten and soy. And when I say stop… we stopped for 2 and half years… my son did not eat any soy or gluten or dairy during that time. He is 4 years old now and we just started gluten again in the past five months. I was next going to try to cut out wheat only and leave the other gluten items in his diet. He has seen a dermatologist, he has a gastroenterologist and also sees an allergist. He also has problems with allergies and his sinuses with chronic ear infections. They want to do surgery to remove tonsils and adenoids. A part of me thinks it’s all related.
It is so disheartening and sad to see your child suffering so I completely relate and understand your story and appreciate you sharing. I would greatly appreciate the information about the biochemist in Wisconsin. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you. Blessings, Mari
