Recently, one of my readers asked where to buy peanuts in bulk. I’ve shared about how we love Braga Organic Farms and purchase bulk almonds, cashews and pistachios from them, but they don’t have peanuts. :(
I usually get my peanuts from Azure Standard, but looked it up on Amazon for those of you who aren’t on an Azure Standard route. Sure enough, there’s a great source for organic peanuts that are perfect for making delicious peanut butter. This price is about what I pay through Azure Standard, so I know it’s a great deal for organic peanuts!!
I can’t tell you how delicious homemade peanut butter is. It’s incredibly easy to make, takes very little time and tastes incredible when it’s freshly made like this!!! If you spread Homemade Peanut Butter on these Simple Soaked Pancakes with bananas and Real Maple Syrup? Mmm….awesome.
If you love peanuts in trail mix, as a snack, or so that you can make Homemade Peanut Butter, you may want to check out Amazon as a source for Organic Peanuts in bulk. I found that I could get 10 pounds for just over $40, shipped. Great price for organic peanuts!

A few weeks ago our youngest one was home alone with us, too! It is a lot less food and laundry and I’m very thankful for that one on one time with him, but so very thankful to have all of us back together.
Have a great week! Lori

We’ve always purchased freshly ground peanut butter at Earth Fare, but I really need to compare the price of making our own. We go through so much peanut butter at our home. Could you give my an estimate of how much peanut butter you can make from 1 pound of peanuts?
Laura says
Hmmm…two cups makes about one pint of peanut butter. There are about three cups of peanuts in each pound. So…1 1/2 pints? Which is 24 ounces. Did I do the math right on all of that??
I haven’t found that making homemade peanut butter saves tons of money, just a little bit. But the fresh taste isn’t even comparable to pre-made. I love it!

I’d like to know this, too!

How long do peanuts keep?
Laura says
They should keep for 6 months without going rancid, but I keep them in the freezer anyway. :)
Becky @ Our Peaceful Home says
How much peanut butter do you make at a time? How do you store it? In the fridge?
Laura says
I usually make one pint sized jar at a time (which is about 2 cups of peanuts). I store it in the fridge in a jar.

Hmm… those peanuts from Amazon that you referenced seem to be raw and with the skins on. Do you seriously peel the skins off all the peanuts before grinding them? Also, didn’t you say the peanuts you use to make peanut butter were roasted? Have you used raw peanuts before? Thanks.
Laura says
Ah, good point. I’d just quickly pull of as many skins as I could before roasting them for a little while in the oven before making the peanut butter. Although, I believe you could make it with raw peanuts.
Virginia says
I often buy raw valencia peanuts and they have the skins on. I often honey roast them and make them into peanut butter without removing any of the skins and it works great. It gives the peanut butter a darker color, but aside from that, you can’t even tell.
Jess Miller says
The ones you linked to have the skin. Do you use peanuts w/ the skin on while making peanut butter or can you easily get the skin off somehow?
Laura says
I’d try to pull off as many skins as possible before making peanut butter, but a few skins left on wouldn’t hurt.
Debbie says
So, how do you quickly or easily peel the skins off of 10 pounds of
peanuts? Curious as I would like to purchase these, but am holding
off because of the skin. I don’t care to handle each one of those
peanuts… :-)
Laura says
Here’s a link that describes an easy method. I’d go with this! http://happyhomemaker88.com/2008/09/25/how-to-remove-the-skins-of-roasted-peanuts-in-a-jiffy/
Brooke says
Laura, couple questions… do you know approx how many ounces of PB the case from Amazon would make?
Also, do you ever roast your peanuts b/f you process them? Last time I just threw them in the processor they remained a little gritty texture -kids did not like it too much. Anyways, I’ve heard roasting them beforehand helps. Have you done this? Thanks
Laura says
My rough calculations tell me that 10 pounds of peanuts make 45 ounces of peanut butter. I actually usually used roasted peanuts for peanut butter, so yes, it may be best to roast these first.
Jess says
I’m so confused…you said one pound of peanuts makes roughly 24
ounces of peanut butter, how can TEN pounds make 45??
Laura says
Yowza, that was a typo!! Glad you found it and pointed it out. :) I have no idea where that came from. Ten pounds would make 240 ounces, huh? Who knows what I was thinking when I said that. :)
Megan says
Laura, I love your homemade pb recipe… it looks so easy to make! BUT… we have peanut allergies in our home. I’ve been buying a sunflower butter for a few years as a delicious peanut butter substitute. Do you know if it would be the same process to make this at home, or it it would even be cost-effective? I pay $4.09 for a 16 oz jar. Thanks!
Laura says
Here’s how to make sunbutter – I couldn’t get mine to turn out as creamy as we would have liked, but if you add a little bit of oil, I think that will help!
