I mentioned here that my vacuum as been broken for several weeks. Aside from having a great excuse not to vacuum…nothing good has come from this. My floors have been getting dirtier by the minute.
However, I have now picked up my new and improved, cleaned out and equipped with a new hose…vacuum. (After I wrote a nice check to the repair place, of course.)
So now, I get to vacuum my floors. Never before have I been so excited to clean! I guess the trick is to not do a particular chore for at least a month…then you’ll be excited to do it again!
HOWEVER…while I may feel this way about vacuuming…I don’t think that I will ever feel this way about ironing. I have not ironed any item of clothing in many, many months and I do not miss it. I do not yearn for it. I do not look longingly at our closets full of clothes that do not require ironing….wishing just this once I could just take something out and iron it.
Indeed, ironing is my least favorite household chore.
Which leads me to today’s question….
What are your favorite…and least favorite household chores?
(If you love to iron…I’ll just shake my head at you and grin….and say something like, “Oh, bless your heart…”)

Catherine says:
Oh I am totally with you on the ironing thing. The rule in this house is it only gets ironed if it is absolutely, positively, unavoidably, completely necessary!
I don’t mind cooking and baking.
By the way, I have ‘awarded’ your blog. So come on over and see your award. (My daughter gave me this award, and since I can’t disappoint her by NOT passing it along I decided I may as well give it some thought.)

I completely agree with the ironing thing. I iron about 3 times a year, maybe. I love to clean though! Tanya

I can’t stand to put clothes away. I don’t mind washing, folding or even ironing, I just cannot stand putting them away! If only I could find someone to do that for me!

I’m with you on the ironing. My husband has to wear an (ironed) shirt and tie to work, and I’m not willing to pay the $2 per shirt to send it to the cleaners, so I iron. I try to do it all once a week while we’re watching the TV after the kids are in bed. But then there are the mornings we wake up and I realize I forgot, so it’s a mad scramble to get a shirt ready for work.
You can tell it’s not my favorite thing!

I don’t mind ironing at all - in fact I find it kind of relaxing (so long as all the kids are in bed) - but I rarely do it because I hang everything straight from the dryer. My husband’s work wardrobe is VERY casual, so I don’t have to iron anything for him. My least favorite chore of all time, though, is mopping the floors! I hate, hate, hate mopping the floors! They are just dirty again 2 minutes later.

The Colonel is the ironer (is that a word) around here. I don’t know that he ENJOYS it, but he does it every day!
Me, on the other hand? Pick something I LIKE to do around the house? Does holding my baby count? Because that’s probably the only household thing I enjoy.

Least favorite: Cleaning the bathroom
Most favorite: vacuuming
Congrats on getting back your vacuum. My suggestion for the ironing is to set a timer for 15 minutes and get started. As Flylady says, you can do anything for 15 minutes!!!
Blessings,

I am a little bit of a freak. The way you feel about baking and cooking is how I feel about cleaning. I love it. Weird…I know.
My favorite though is vacuuming. I do it a couple times a day. My least favorite is cleaning anything in my girls’ rooms. Who knows what is lurking in there?!?!

Well of course anything to do with organizing is my favorite and like you I detest ironing and rarely do it. I definitely take that into consideration when clothes shopping. I also hate to wash floors….uggg.

I’m not a fan of ironing either - if I have clothes that “need” to be ironed, I usually use the “throw in the dryer with a wet wash rag” trick, and hope for the best.
And I totally agree with Sally - there isn’t much that I DO enjoy. If you visited my home (especially this weekend), you’d see how true that is! As much I hate the idea of paying someone to clean my house, I’m about THIS close to doing it anyway. The bathrooms are so scary right now, I shake a little at the idea of cleaning them. I wonder how much Merry Maids charges to clean scary, scary bathrooms??
My biggest problem is all the other little (and one big) people I have living here. If they’d just LEAVE things be… where I put them! And if they’d just throw out a few things now and then… all the clutter… oh my.. all the clutter…
Um, I think I’ll hush now!

I definitely don’t like ironing, but it seems that most of them need it these days! I’ve been hanging all our laundry to save energy by not using the dryer. But when you factor in the ironing I wonder exactly hom much energy I’m saving!?! I don’t think I have a household chore that I just love, but my least favorite job is the bathroom! Bathrooms are just gross in general!

I despise doing the dishes…strange I know. This is the one chore that is unavoidable, I do it often…many times a day. But I can’t stand the dishes.
I truly enjoy doing the laundry. I do about two loads a day and I love it…every bit of it.
It’s probably that I can multitask while doing the laundry, but I feel like a slave to the dishes in the kitchen sink.

I do not like ironing or doing windows, or dusting…I will do them, but I do not enjoy them. I do love cleaning my kitchen and organizing my cupboards. ANd I love yard work.

My favorite chores: bathing the baby, cleaning the kitchen, and walking the dog. Least favorite: laundry. I don’t mind folding it but I hate venturing down to the basement to wash it! Thankfully, DH is willing.

I hate dealing with clutter! And paper stuff! I can handle cleaning, cooking, ironing (from time to time), but what to do with 8 people’s ’stuff’(not that we have alot of ’stuff’ just that there’s 8 of us)– and every little piece of paper–whew! I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

It is a good feeling to get some cleaning done once you’ve started. I don’t like putting the clothes away so I will usually fold and hubby puts them away. He also irons. I’m not sure if I have a favorite.

I love, love, love to do laundry! I love sorting, folding, hanging, everything..except ironing. I do not iron. LOL DH usually irons his work shirts that need it, or we’ll use the Downy Wrinkle releaser.

When I was a kid I said, out loud, in public “do we have one of those” when the subject of an iron and ironing board came up. My mother was mortified, and yet, this did not start up any tradition of ironing. If I had one more room in my house, in it you would find the ironing board left up all the time. I wouldn’t mind it so much if I could just quick do what needed to be done. The board mounted to the back of the door doesn’t count either. I want someplace where the board and the iron can remain. Actually, I want a $30 hand-held steamer I saw in one of those crazy catalogs of things you “must” have for your home that are mostly laughable and all junk. And yet, I’m convinced that the hand-held steamer must be magically wonderful. Well, enough rambling. Off to bed so that tomorrow I can wear a somewhat wrinkled shirt to work hoping all the way there that the wrinkles will work out on the drive!

P.S. If I may make a plug… I do think that my Shaklee laundry softener does help cut down on the wrinkles.

I’m with you–ironing is at the bottom of my list, I rarely do it. Dusting is also way down there. I don’t mind vacuuming–but the picking up before I can vacuum takes forever!

Least Favorite Cleaning Chore: Cleaning the toilets in my boys’ bathroom! YUCK!
Most Favorite Cleaning Chore: Organizing!
I organized our movie/game/supplies/misc. closet the other day. I unveiled it to my husband with a flourish…and…no response! He wasn’t as impressed as I thought he would be, but that’s okay!

I do like to iron! There’s just something relaxing about it. You take a piece of clothing that is as wrinkled as my life, and you straighten it out. It’s like therapy!
My least favorite is scrubbing tubs and showers. I also don’t like mopping floors. Dirty water, dripping mop - too messy!
