Next weekend, we’re having a family reunion with my mom’s side of the family! I’m super excited. It’s always wonderful to get together with aunts and uncles and cousins.
My mom was one of five kids. All four remaining siblings live in four different states. They always have. (Wasn’t very thoughtful of them, was it?) And now that there are many of us cousins all grown and married…we’re all scattered around even more.
So, to have a reunion…the gathering place must be somewhat central and accessible for many to travel.
We usually have to make quite a road trip to make it to these reunions. I find it exhausting, but worth it, of course.
But guess what? This year…the reunion is being held right here in my very Nebraska town! I am so happy about this!
I would one hundred times rather plan and organize the entire reunion, cook the food to feed all of the families for several days in a row, and clean up the mess after everyone leaves…rather than pack up our van and drive with four kids for twelve hours and have all of the work there done for me. That’s just me. I am not a big fan of traveling. Never have been.
So…the beginning of next week will be full of cooking and freezing and further organization of said reunion…and I couldn’t be happier.
What would YOU rather do? Organize and host a reunion/event…or travel to one?

Organize and cook… but without my three children 5, 2, and 11 months at my feet.

I’m not sure, but I can tell you what I’d rather NOT do again: Travel six hours to a reunion of 120 in-laws where I was both a primary organizer and cook!

Travel to one. It’s not that I don’t love organizing and putting on events, but every time I do, I miss out on so much of the visiting because you’re running around making sure everything is taken care of.
Besides, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to travel. Of course, I’d rather fly than drive, but anything to visit a new place. =)

Organize and cook. I love to host and plan things. To me it is a lot of fun. Work but fun.

I would prefer to organize because my family isn’t so great at that part. All our family reunions, someone has been forgotten, and assignments haven’t been sent out.

As much as I love to organize, cook, clean, etc… I think I would much rather travel to a reunion. I love road trips! Even with six kids and gas at $4 a gallon, I love it!
I guess I am crazy. Thanks for your encouragement on my blog. Things are looking up!

I’d be happy to do either one, as long as it meant the rest of the family getting together with us.
I’m traveling 18+ hrs to visit my family this summer…then from there another 3+ hours to visit a sister b/c she won’t come to my parent’s house…yet by having the get together at that sister’s house…another sister won’t drive the approx. 2.5 hrs so that we can ALL be together.
I don’t get it. We all get along well together and have a great time when we are together…I think for one sister it’s a “control” issue in us having to go have the get-together at her place…for the other sister I think it’s just selfishness. Makes me sad.

I would rather travel to a reunion. Grams can’t travel much anymore, and I have to go to her now. It is my grandchild duty, I think. I could plan, and I could certainly cook (even for the ARMY that my relatives are becoming), but I help more readily when it is not MY house. We just converge in one place, pull up a piece of the floor in the basement, and have a good time with each other. Of course, I don’t have kids to pack. That would make a difference.

Before I had six children (four in four years) I would have preferred to cook and host a family event.
Now, I am happy to let someone else look after that part and I prefer to do the travelling.
However, if someone wants to cook and organise the event here at my house, that would be fiine with me too!
