Question #18

September 13, 2008

Remember how the baseball game we traveled to got rained out and how we had to stay an extra night…and how that gave me extra time to GO SHOPPING at an outlet mall that was close by

It ended up not being that great of an outlet mall…but it did provide a couple hours of fun bargain shopping…and I got a pair of black slacks for a good price that I think will actually fit me well!  (I come across pants that fit well about once every 3.7 years.)

Anyway…I do love shopping, even though I don’t really do it very often.  When I do go shopping though…the fun parts for me include finding awesome sales in which I can buy cute clothes for incredibly cheap prices.  Like Old Navy jeans for $3.99.  Or a sweater from Kohls for $6.99.  Oooh, now THAT’S fun shopping!

So, how about you?  Do you like to shop?  What do you like to shop for?  Where are your favorite places to shop?

Come now…tell me all your shopping secrets!

I can’t stand traditional stores. Wal-mart, Kohl’s, Old Navy, the Mall…. yuck. I do, however, love the thrift store. My boys call it the surprise store because you never know what you will find there. We always find something totally awesome that we’ve never seen before.. and the boys get way more for their measly amounts of money than they could ever find at a traditional store. The thrift shop has toys still in boxes and clothes with the tags on them, for sometimes less than half of what it’s going for at Wal Mart. I love the thrift store.

I love to shop clearance racks. I love consignment stores and yard sales. I love cheap and dont mind looking and sorting. But, the only full price store I like to go and look in is Anne taylor though I can afford nothing there.

I am not a shopping lover, but I do like it when I find something that fits that I got for a deal. I shop at Target mostly, but recently got something at Dress Barn and Dillard’s. My mom loves Dillard’s and swears they have the best sales ever.

I like clearance racks! Doesn’t matter the store. I don’t really have a favorite store because I don’t really like shopping for clothes for myself, the girld on the other hand is a different story!

I am not much of a shopper. I consider it a major chore along the same lines as cleaning out the refrigerator or defrosting the freezer! When I go shopping, I go for a specific item. I look at the sales racks and hope they have it. I only look for the specific item I am shopping for and nothing else. I try to buy basic colors that will all coordinate together. My thoughts on shopping is: seek if I absolutely have to, find in the quickest manner possible, and go home!

  6. Chelf says:

I also find clothes that fit very rarely. I despise clothes shopping.

I do, however, have a special place in my heart for books. I love finding a used bookstore, or a sale at my favorite bookstore. The smell of ink on paper is intoxicating.

  7. Barbara says:

I don’t like shopping for clothes. If I have to shop, then I start with eBay and then I go to a thrift store, because I don’t like paying full (ridiculously high) price for anything, and most of today’s fashions don’t know what the word modest means. I do love the thrift store, especially half price day! Shopping for groceries is ok, but I’m still a bargain hunter and when you eat real, whole, the way God intended us to eat food, the bargains are harder to come by. Now shopping for kitchen stuff - that’s a different story! I still don’t really like going to stores, so I peruse catalogs - Lehman’s is probably my favorite. And (IMO) a trip to their store is like winning a vacation!

Back to my canning - I just heard 3 apple jelly lids pop! THANKS for your inspiration Laura - I’m admiring applesauce that I canned yesterday and last week.

Finally something that I am talented in…shopping!!!

I never pay full price for anything and I am a garage sale junkie. I think 90% of what is in my house came from a garage sale…like my nice new $100 couch that I am sure someone paid $600 for. I am a garage sale snob though…I usually only go to the wealthy people’s houses…they practically give away their nice furniture and clothes.

I also love clearance racks, consignment sales and coupons!!!

    Wait…maybe this isn’t a talent…maybe this an addiction. :)

  9. Andrea says:

I rarely pay full price for anything. I will shop in a cross section of stores from Goodwill to Macy’s and yard sales to consignment shops.

I always head to clearance first.

Just today I found a Chap’s shirt for $12.00 for my husband.

I have a post in progress though about a clothing fairy who leaves clothes for two of my boys on our porch.

I love to shop. But hand-me-downs are awesome too!

  11. Teresa says:

I really do like shopping. I think my favorite shopping, though, is shopping for the house at the flea market or second hand stores. They truly have hidden treasures there that you have to unearth! What fun!

  12. Joelle says:

I love shopping… I love Old Navy, but now it’s too far away to go there much. (I try to avoid the major freeways around S. CA if I can, thanks to traffic, and there are great stores within 10 minutes on the sideroads). I like shopping at Ross and Marshall’s or TJ Maxx - those stores that have name-brand stuff majorly marked down in price.
I also LOVE shopping for home decorating stuff… like at IKEA. That store is amazing, and I LOVE browsing, particularly in their Marketplace area. (Their furniture section is good too, if I’m looking for furniture.) I have come across some awesome deals at IKEA - like cute little dessert glass bowls for 99 cents apiece! How cool is that!!

  13. Erin says:

I LOVE shopping! It’s my hobby. I especially like to buy clothes for my son. But, I’m learning the art of bargain shopping so it’s a more affordable hobby! ;)

  14. Marianne says:

I am not a shopper, at all. It’s tough because I live in a neighborhood full of boutiques! Window shopping is very fun. My husband is a shopper. He makes me go with him, which I don’t really enjoy. I love spending the time with him, though.
