Question #17

September 6, 2008

We arrived home from our fun baseball trip Friday afternoon…just in time for me to do laundry and give the boys showers and send them all off for Dads-n-Lads, a yearly retreat for dads and sons.  (Don’t ask me why I felt I’d better give them showers before going to camp for the weekend.  Like they need to be clean to go camping?)

The boys have been SO EXCITED about this trip for weeks, and who can blame them?  A whole weekend with all boys doing all the things boys like to do best.  With their daddys!!

So here I am…in my very quiet house.  A house, I might add, that has stayed clean for longer than five minutes at a time.  It really is quite a treat, but I’m not sure how long I can stand it.  I MISS my boys and their daddy!

However until Sunday afternoon, I have some bigs plans for myself in this big ol’ quiet house.  I plan to not go anywhere if I can help it.  I plan to eat whatever I want whenever I want.  I plan to watch a chic flick or two.  AND, I plan to sit here at my computer working on two ebooks that have been in the works for a while.  With no interruptions.  What in the world might that be like?!

So my question for you today is…if you had a weekend all to yourself with no obligations and no responsibilities…what would you do?!

Ooh, I can’t wait to read your answers!

Yay - a weekend to yourself! I would do what you are doing - stay home, eat what I wanted (popcorn, nachos and diet coke - with maybe a piece of fruit thrown in for my health?), watch a movie, and work on my computer on about 1000 different projects that are always rattling around in my mind. I promise I’m not trying to copy you, it’s just exactly what I would do too!

    :-)

Oh wait - I forgot one thing - if I was home alone for the weekend, you can bet I’d CALL YOU for a nice long uninterrupted chat! LOL

First I would make coffee then crawl back to bed to read sleep relax work on the computer and sleep some more. I need more sleep.

  4. rebecca says:

    1. Sleep in (maybe even until 9am!!!)
    2. Scrapbook or sew or something that requires scissors/needles/dangerous things if put in the mouth.
    3. Take a long tub soak (sigh)
    4. Clean the house and enjoy the cleanliness
    5. Clean the garage (why am I so ambitious?)

  5. Cassandra Stafford says:

Exactly what you said. Eat some bad or me but oh tastes so good food and read and watch chic flicks and totally veg. No make up. Wouldnt bother getting out of my jammies or brushing my hair. I would be a sight to behold, but I would be a comfy, relaxed woman!

Chocolate, chocolate, oh and more chocolate?! LOL! Definitely in pjs, cup of java, good book, :D

  7. Debbie says:

Throw out the old/broken toys that suddenly become the favorite thing when I try to throw them out when the kids are here. I would do a clean sweep type organizing of the house. Then I would read, crochet, knit or sew. And take a long, uninterrupted soak in the tub. Aaaah.

  8. Cindy says:

I would read and sleep…two things I have little time for now, especially the READING part. But this is unlikely to happen since I’m in for at least 3 more months of breastfeeding, and I can’t imagine my husband taking our three kids, 4 years and under, anywhere for an extended period, for a long time. It’s much more possible for me to GO someplace and read and sleep for a weekend. Hey, maybe I should try to do that after the baby is weaned!

READ with no interruptions. Ice cream whenever I wanted! HA!

  10. Sarah says:

Oh there are so many things I would do if I had some time to myself!

    1. work on christmas gifts
    2. work on the book I am writing
    3. make some snacks and meals to stash in the freezer.
    4. shampoo the carpets
    5. read and eat
THere is probably more but that is some of the things I would be working on.

  11. Sweetpeas says:

I actually get weekends (or at least a partial weekend) to myself every so often when dh takes the kids to his mom’s, I do alot of the same things you do (eat what I want, when I want, stay home, etc). I’ve also found it’s a great time to listen to mp3 sermons! I just canNOT pay attention enough to follow a sermon while I’m keeping half an ear open for the kids, and dh usually watches tv in the evenings (and I COULD go off by myself somewhere to listen to things I want to listen but I kinda like spending some time w/ my husband, even if it’s just cuddling on the couch) so I save them up and then spend a whole afternoon listening to them when everyone’s gone. It does wonders for my spiritual outlook and has become something special I look forward to on my weekends alone.

  12. Teresa says:

It must be very QUIET! I can’t imagine an entire weekend alone. I think at first I would love it, but after an hour or two I would be missing my noisy, bustling house full of kids and a hubby!

If I were left alone for a weekend I would sew. I could finish a quilt top or two and a handful of gifts for birthdays! I would also start sewing a few Christmas presents!

  13. Donna says:

PJ’s, loud music, books, write, read, clean, dance, sew, paint a wall or two, …!

I get kinda crazy just thinkin’ about it!
I never have one second alone–I can’t imagine a weekend! WOW! Oh what I would do…lol.

Congrats, I know U gotta miss ‘em but I hope you enjoy every minute of the quiet time!

  14. Melanie says:

It’s hard to imagine, but I think I would try to scrapbook, sew, work on Christmas gifts, and do some organizing in the house. I always start out ambitious, but then start to wonder how the kids are doing, etc. :)

  15. Amy @ Finer Things says:

I would definitely get started on my daughter’s baby album since she is now, um… 13 months old… and where did that year go? And while I’m at it I may as well try to catch up a bit on the other two kids’ albums. AND I want to dive into my digital album software. I think a weekend just wouldn’t cut it!

  16. Shannon L. Fowler says:

Well, I’d probably go to Wal Mart and stock up on some junk food & Coke & Mountain Dew. hee hee hee Then close all blinds & “hermit-ize” myself. :) I’d probably grab my knitting and knit away while I either read a book or watch some craft shows. :) I would NOT put on makeup and I would hang out in my pj’s the whole time. :)

Hope you enjoy your time to yourself!!

    God Bless,
    Shannon in NC

  17. Gretchen says:

Ah, just to think of the possibilities. I would go to the fabric store and buy all kinds of fabric and sew, sew, sew.

    September 6th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

  18. Joelle says:

I think I’d sleep in, go shopping with some friends, go someplace interesting and take pictures, scrapbook, and maybe sew. I think I’d also clean up a couple places around the house that need it.

    September 6th, 2008 at 10:28 pm

  19. Marie says:

What is up with all the christmas stuff?!?! I would definitely be catching up on some sleep and on some reading! I would also NOT be cooking!

    September 6th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

  20. Denai says:

OHHH, I get those sometimes… (OK, maybe not a whole weekend, but sometimes a LARGE chunk of time on a weekend…!)
I love to SEW SEW SEW… and be on the computer with UN-interupted time!
Have fun today and think of me having a 5th birthday party! I made her cake with Natural dye frosting (posted on my blog)… I am soooo excited!
I will be thinking of you while I entertain the Family here!

    September 7th, 2008 at 8:55 am

  21. Michelle says:

I would make sure the house was the clean and all the laundry done. Then, I would crochet and read while watching some chic flicks. I would not go anywhere at all and just enjoy the peace and quiet. I would also turn my phone off! I would sleep when I felt like it and stay awake as long as I wanted at night. I totally would not be cooking- at all! I would just eat whatever I could find from leftovers!

    September 7th, 2008 at 9:43 am

  22. Marla says:

I’m not really a fan of being alone. I miss my husband to much when he isn’t around.

But, if I had a weekend to myself I think I would paint my enrtyway and maybe even the living room (if I could find someone to help). I would also clean out my closet. It’s a huge mess!!

  23. chinamama4 says:

Knit…and read…and maybe organize around the house a bit…maybe catch a few HGTV favorites and a “John and Kate Plus 8″ marathon…blast worship songs on the stereo and sing and dance for the Lord! Then sit around and wonder when they’re all gonna get home, ‘cuz I miss them so much!

    September 7th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

  24. Karen says:

Let’s see…I would read, maybe scrapbook while watching a good movie (maybe the “Anne” movies!) and definitely have lots of chocolate and diet Coke!

    September 7th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

  25. Joyce says:

Sounds like a nice time for yourself:)

I would read one of the many novels I have stacked up to read, in bed, with chocolate on the side.:)

Hope you had a great time,
    Joyce
