15% off Starter Cultures at Cultures for Health

Through July 9, Cultures for Health is offering 15% off all of their culture starters – including kefir, buttermilk, sour cream, and yogurt.  Use the code JULY4 for the discount.  They  have many varieties, and I’ve never tried one I didn’t like.

It is so easy and affordable to make homemade cultured dairy products.  And if you can’t have milk at your house, they have options on their site for using coconut milk too!

Wondering how long it will take or how difficult it would be to make these cultured dairy products?  Here’s a post I wrote that might help:  Five Minutes to Cultured Dairy

I’d love to, but they all contain the “manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, shellfish, and practically everything else under the sun”, and my daughter’s allergic to peanuts and shellfish. :(

    Hi Laura -

Love your site! One (silly) question. Why would I want to make my own buttermilk, yogurt, & sour cream (I don’t even know what kefir is!)? Not being a wisenheimer, just honestly not sure what the benefits are.

    Thanks much!

Kefir is like yogurt, only thinner – so kind of like a drinkable yogurt. :) The benefits of making your own cultured dairy products are mainly for those who use fresh, raw milk from farmers. We get this type of milk, so with it, we can then make buttermilk, yogurt, etc. This makes super healthy cultured dairy products which are great for our digestion, plus it saves money since buying those products is expensive. :)

Thanks! I appreciate your taking the time to respond. That was my guess and it makes sense. I just wasn’t sure.
    Thanks again,
